The biggest incentive for the company to staff properly is the cost of a GS. If you wanted to reduce furloughs you increase the cost of overtime flying not decrease it. In addition some seem to forget that once a trip has passed through the coverage ladder it goes back to crew tracking for reroute.
Far more important than all of the above is that we will be working under the current contract for a long time unless the company decides to file for release. Any change to current contractual items that would handcuff the company are highly unlikely.
As far as providing GS pay to furloughed pilots I suggested back in 2001 that we take the coming 4% raise and provide every furloughed pilot with 3000 a month on top of cobra. I should see if my old laptop will fire up and dig out some of the emails I received after pushing that idea.

I have been very clear in my position on this over the years. If we are going to resort to thuggery to force/shame guys into voluntarily abrogating their seniority, then those that benefit from that thuggery via IAs should NOT be paid extra. Put it in the ****ing contract. If there are furloughs, and no GSs, then no ****ing IAs either.

However this is not allowed by the grant.
You should have received Capitol Hill Brief 20-02 from DALPA.

Your analysis of manning didn’t get to the root cause of why GS are offered in the first place.
Paying GS is not as expensive as a cancelled flight due to lack of volunteer pilots. Else why would GS be offered?

It seems totally wrong to me in principle if a pilot does a single greenslip with a single person on furlough. Isn’t it just telling the company that they don’t need to bring back pilots because people will staff their flying with premium pickups? Does the union have a stance on this?
I have about 1500 below me and if I’m the company plug I’m not doing a single extra thing until everyone is back on property.

What y’all don’t seem to understand is that the Company will get someone to do the flying whether it is a GS or IA or reroute.
