Delta To Furlough?

Totally agree. And you're right...the next displacement bid will show their intent for Q4 and Q1 and Q2 of 2021. What horrible times...just horrible.

If they are smart they will make this bid just for the overages of the next 5-6 months. It’s absurd that they are trying to determine staffing for next summer right now. Two years in a row now their prediction is wayyyyyyy off. They need to do a short one and see how this continues to play out over the next few months.

I have been very clear in my position on this over the years. If we are going to resort to thuggery to force/shame guys into voluntarily abrogating their seniority, then those that benefit from that thuggery via IAs should NOT be paid extra. Put it in the ****ing contract. If there are furloughs, and no GSs, then no ****ing IAs either.

My understand was 10 percent of the workforce, so really any number of pilots as long as the total number is less than 10 percent of 90,000 ie 9,000?

I like the idea of reducing GS premium, it keeps us from being our own worst enemies. The downside is junior pilots end up with IA premium pay instead of senior ones. Would pilots bid to be junior in category in these circumstances? Perhaps regular line GS pays 1.25 and reserve remains the same, since reserve GS doesn't reduce staffing the way line GS does.
WRT buybacks, if we can't eliminate them, any stock based compensation should be adjusted based on a reduction of outstanding shares. If Delta buys back 10% of the outstanding shares, the strike price on executive options increase and the number of shares are reduced by 10%. Executives do not participate in special dividend disbursements.

Many of you don't seem too upset at the idea of someone getting an IA vs a GS. One is involuntary and the other voluntary. So what? The result is the same and the voluntary guy might even be helping out the involuntary one who didn't want to go out on a trip because of life events (birthday, graduation, wedding etc.).
This is such a slippery slope. I will say this, if the trip is going to be covered one way or another (and not cancelled), I am adamantly against in paying less. We don't want to go there.

This will be unpopular but I agree with JB. I understand the sentiment behind no GSing while pilots are on furlough but just don't know if it's practical. The only way around any controversy over GSing vs IA is to have something contractual which eliminates overtime of any type. This would mean trips getting canceled after going thru the WS and reserve process. I just don't ever see the Company agreeing to this.

Lets just try and be patient and wait another 2-3 weeks. Things might look very differently then. 2 weeks ago, March 16, we were discussing notions of millions dead and months of quarantine. No covid treatments, or therapies, mortality rates, or even number of cases were known. Airline stocks were losing 10+% of their value daily, and equity markets were dropping quickly. We were panicked, our bosses were panicked; the future looked grim. Just today, the CNBC talking head suggested that the debate on Wall Street is which of the big 4 airlines will be best positioned to grow and recapture international travel when (not if) it returns. Delta was mentioned by name. Let’s be patient and see what the world looks like in 2 more weeks from now.
