I had a buddy, his older brother had a 427 Cobra, early 70's. I only a had one ride in it. Never drove. White with cinnamon stripe. Wing windows tinted. Side pipes, etc. The car left the ground, I swear, when he shifted. Unbelievable, and look at the price of those cars now.

I had a 55 Chevy, Mickey Thompsons, air shocks, straight pipes. Couldn't get out of it's own way.

I’m partial to the Tuatara. It clocks in at 256 mph and is street legal. For up to $1.9 million, Jerod Shelby is limiting it to a production run of 100. He is gunning for 300 mph.

Yup, passed down from my Grandfather, didn't have the money to drop a 327 in her.

The least you could have done is gone to Western Auto and bought two "V's for the trunk and hood.

Bought a ‘99 Miata new and ran it 11 years. Very reliable and gas mileage was great. Other than normal wear and tear stuff I only other item I had replaced was a cracked coil during those 11years.

In 2000 Honda came out with the S2000 with 240hp. Wish I had known! Finally picked up a low mileage 2008 S2000 and what a difference. Loved my Miata but the performance of the S2000 was amazing. Sold it a couple years ago and regret it. I still look at ads for them.

In my past had all the British stuff, MGs, Sprite, TR6. But none of those had the reliability and technology of course, than the Miata and S2000. S2000s were only built for 10 years and are becoming collector cars so if you find a decent one it’d be a good investment.

As I'm very interested in being green. I have to go with a hybrid, the Porsche 918. Plus I'm sure everything looks the same above 200mph.

a year ago I traded my 2000 Miata in on a 2019 Miata and the difference is pretty dramatic. I've never driven an S2000, but at 23xx lbs and 181hp, the Miata is getting a lot closer to that performance. Things that surprised me were how much quieter and smoother riding the new miata is compared to my old one while handling better also. Wife hated riding in the old one because it rode so rough (stock sport suspension) and was so loud we had to shout. New one we can talk in a normal voice under about 75 mph top down or up.

2009 Honda S2000 2855lbs/237hp=12 lb/hp

2019 Miata 2341lbs/181hp=12.9 lb/hp

The 10 year old Honda still has the power to weight advantage but it's way closer than it was with the old 140hp 1999 Miata.

Yeah... as long as you keep it above 6,000 RPM. No thanks.

Great thread. Now help me with my decision since I’m about to order a 2020. Soft top or RF (Retractable Fastback)? It’s not going to be a Daily Driver BTW.
