To echo other comments, dunno why they wouldn't stick a bigger tank in it. I guess market research said that range wasn't needed.

Also, the eicas thing might finally torpedo the thing. What's Vref gonna be on a max10 anyway? Like 190?
They probably could not stick a bigger tank in it because filling that tank would mean limited passengers. Raising gross weights to higher limits probably was not structurally possible. Why would you want more than 3300 miles range in a domestic aircraft? If they could have made structural changes to a higher gross weight you are lugging that extra weight around on every flight. The MAX10 has a nice cost advantage over the A321NEO. I suspect they wanted to maximize that advantage.

Got to go clean the barf out of my carpet, but before I do, how is the 737-900 even a thing? How does an airplane routinely violate limits of its component parts, like tires (182 when I flew it)? We were constantly near or above 200 before the mains left the pavement in SLC. So tired of the response from McBoeing being "well, does it blow up? ... well then, it must be OK"

FAA is being uber-conservative, and Boeing doesn't like that. Bye bye Max!

If a pilot is hitting near or above 200 on rotation on a Delta 737-900, which has the short-field performance package, that pilot is rotating too slow

I think most will be retired except for 300s, NBA birds and maybe 10-15 more 75s for performance critical operations (BOG, SJO, TGU, SNA, etc etc)

800s getting scimitars. How exciting!

I checked the tires at some point because I was wondering the same thing and I'm pretty sure they're max speed is around 225kts. Another plane I flew was 182 so I was wondering.

I've definitely seen the TAS close to 200 on rotation on a super hot day in SLC/DEN when heavy. Especially Denver because they love to give us flaps 1 speeds on those long runways so VR is already super high, add the high density altitude and your TAS is close to 200 easily. But it looks like the tires are good up to 225kts anyway according to a previous poster, so we're good!

Could be, could also have been the tires before the new radials, it was a while ago.

Edit: But to back up someone's original point, on a hot day in Vegas or something with a tail strike nervous pilot rotating at .7 degrees per second you are definitely hauling ass in ground speed at wheel liftoff.

Please do - that carpet really tied the room together.
