Prepare Yourselves... 2021 AEs

The 30+ hrs WB Intl layovers sound great. Especially 40+ hrs. Seems like the majority Intl is 24hr layover and I'd rather do an all inclusive layover in the Caribbean and travel transoceanic on my off days. 24 hrs in LIB, PUJ, UVF, MBJ, AUA etc etc is pretty awesome.
I remember laying in bed exhausted in Athens 24 hrs after arriving and remembered the crew that brought us is preparing to depart back to JFK. Got some more rest and departed for Santorini

If its in the PWA it is not a violation of seniority. The PWA determines what seniority can and can not do. There is no such thing as "True seniority."
Are you advocating for something like the senior guy gets all 5 weeks of vacation before the next guys gets week one? Senior guy is always first in line for a GS? Senior guys gets a PD before the next guy can use an APD? Junior guys always go out first on reserve until they hit the FARs?
The PWA determines how and when seniority can be exercised and by definition if its in the PWA - well you know the rest.
The PWA also determines how much or little seniority is weighted in all situations where it comes into play. We can fine tune it and adjust it one way or another and if you are pointing out that the power of seniority has steadily been diluted since at least 2000 - I agree with you, but realize what is fair is subjective.
I don't understand your comment.

If you just experienced this WB B —>NB A you might want to give it a little bit of time. I personally can’t do WB flying because I have a hard enough time sleeping one time zone away. Circa 2018-2019 the NB fleets... well there wasn’t even a point in bidding. You took off from A to B and then C never happened. Instead you found yourself with 11 hours in D. Deadheading to E on day 2. Flying to F and then G... then to H. When in reality H was your C and you were supposed to have 30 hours there. You get the 41FR code on your schedule, only to find out that there was so much credit in the trip you didn’t really make anything extra and had two 11 hour layovers.
The exception: last day reroutes usually worked out in my/our favor.
When Delta has the demand and the machine kicks in to keep it running on time and maximize crew usage things may return to those days. I hope they don’t, because quite honestly it was miserable. When demand was lower over the last few months... I had 1-2 legs a day and it was absolutely amazing. Hope you never get gummed by his optimizer.

Having said that, I’m still considering NB A now, as $280/hr can buy a lot of patience. And my schedule would be crap anyway, so who cares if you get rerouted!

I have lived this and it’s 100% accurate. Bidding at <20% and never flying the schedule you bid...ridiculous and infuriating. Reroute protection is one of my personal top priorities for our next contract if we ever get one.

If you want a 4th stripe, bid for it.
WB B is for the young, fit, healthy crowd who can handle multiple time zones, eating at odd hours and surviving on 3 hours of sleep. Talk all you want about dozing for dollars, but you are exchanging your normal sleep cycle for two hours at a time in the cargo hold. A 5am wakeup after 8 hours sleep in a bed is a million times better than a 3am wakeup after a 2 hour nap in airline bedding. I loved the WB B lifestyle until I spent the last year on a normal sleep/eat cycle.
My biggest question is like yours. Where does the QOL crossover happen? How much seniority is required in the NB A ranks to fly in the daytime?

This is my thought right now as well. I’m so tired of this shi1tty NB schedule even bidding 20%. Sure I get the exact days off I want but the days I’m on are such a sh1t show I might as well add almost $100/hour. Hell, maybe even get some extra days off sitting LC reserve at home. The WB B is still my first choice but the A bid is starting to look more appealing.

My schedule would be amazing. 1 leg days to 33 hour beach layovers. Then I’d get rerouted into a 9 hour airport hotel layover into a double deadhead or maybe three leg day to join original rotation in ATL.
I used to bid weekend 30hr layovers at home. Such a win because I was home and someone junior to me got the weekend off. Rerouted out of it so many times, I stopped bidding them.
I could go on and on with reroute stories. Suffice to say...it’s not worth staying senior if you never fly the schedule you are awarded. So now I’m bidding the highest paid position I can hold. At least I know I’ll get screwed on my schedule up front.

I just left a WB B position for a NB A position......and I’ll say that there is absolutely nothing worse in this world than that phone call in the bunk when your break is over, after your 1:50 nap. Brutal. A close second is the wake up from the 3-4hr nap after you arrive, when it’s 10am body time after being awake all night and now it’s time for beer and dinner. Most of the bus rides suck. Security is a PITA. Language barrier is a pain.
I loved every minute of it right up until I didn’t. I, for one, can’t wait for my “rediscovering America” tour. But that’s just me.
YMMV.

And in 2008, the NYC 777 category was awesome. Pretty much everyone was on reserve and there was no short-call. Flew about once every 3 months.
I thought your complaint was based on current experiences. 😁 It really ain't that bad right now at 20%.
