I don't believe ARCOS is currently set up for IA's. As a practical matter, if you don't answer your phone, it's difficult to get an IA.

Can you be assigned an IA mid rotation via ACARS, for example?

Not really necessary because the GS, and more specifically, GSWC is such a sweet deal there's apparently no limit to the amount of pilots who will pick them up. Fine by me.

Doesn’t even matter if you answer your phone on an IA call; it’s just a recording saying that rotation 1234 is available and to call skeds if you want it. So “inverse assignment” is a complete misnomer.

Not always.

You could be met at the jetway by a chief pilot telling you that you have been IA into a trip starting tomorrow that was supposed to be a day off. Or, you could be rerouted by crew tracking via ACARS to fly into a day off. Or, assigned a trip on reserve that flies on your off days during the transition from a month of reserve to a month of line (I know that technically isn't an IA but it's still working on days you thought you had off).

When was the last time someone was met in the jetway by a CP with an IA?

Now an ACARS's notification for an IA the next day? I could see that happening if we start to cancel flights.

The problem for the Company is that there is always a way out for us.

Does anyone know how common these methods are? I'm not saying they don't happen, just wondering if anyone has had this happen to them?

Search my post history.

People throw spears at me for documenting this, but I do it for a reason.

I've only listed a fraction of the re-routes and late tags I've gotten/

Just look at my sig in my avatar. that ain't no joke brother.

I'm still a new guy at 20+ years....what is a late tag? Never heard that term before.

They become common if the company can’t cover the trips. I worked XMas once via a jetway assignment. There was once a time when pilots changed out of uniform and gave their flight kits to another pilot to sneak off the aircraft it was so bad.

I've heard the famous legend of the great escape via catering truck a few times. It may be embellished or have no truth at all but it's lore at this point. Of course this would never work today because catering shows up at D15.

Now we know why they were so aggressive in getting rid of the 88's...now no fleet has the tailcone escape option...
