AE Bid Regret

Sometimes thinking about going to work and being gone for four days is worse than the actual work. I have also noticed that when I am in a groove working consistently but not overdoing it everything seems better. The longer it has been since the last trip the harder it seems to jump back into it.
Thoughts?

Right?! I cringe thinking about some of our group’s behavior when the most basic, middle of the road human decency with the cabin crew is rewarded with visible relief and high praise. Is it just that condescension is built into many pilot’s DNA?

All kidding aside, what has worked well in our family is sticking with the highest daily (not hourly) pay in a semi-flexible, commutable category. In other words WB FO until WB CA is an option. The Delta domestic operation is a relationship killer, especially for commuters.

You intentionally and knowingly bid for a position on an AE.
As someone else mentioned, you potentially took a position that somebody else may have wanted and could not get.
Now you want out of your award because your wife is mad.
You really think you should be let out of this award??

When she asks why you bid 4 day trips, just tell her "because they don't have 7 day trips in my category."

To the OP; what’s the category in question and your estimated “juniority?” I’ve hopped around categories a lot both here and at the regionals. Chances are, things will work out just fine once you get in the new groove, every category has its perks. The only time in my career I wasn’t enjoying it much was the never-ending RJ F/o doldrums in the 2007-2013 time period. And that wasn’t a function of bad QOL so much as a function of garbage pay with no end in sight. I’m confident things will work out fine for you!
And also a matter of perspective. One year ago my wife and I didn’t think a paycheck from Delta would be coming in for us one year later with how dire things looked, so to be on any category and working is a huge victory regardless of what the category is.

Very junior narrowbody Captain in the most senior base. With the exclusion of the march-may COVID schedules, I have been used EVERY SINGLE DAY of reserve availability except for 2 over a period of 4 1/2 years. Getting assigned short call means they did not have a trip yet. I think that only has happened twice.
Finally gave up and began aggressively YS to FULL.
Might as well pick your own medicine.
Narrow-body Captains work. Especially since the fleets have been consolidated into gigantic categories where the optimizer can play Tetris like Pajitnov on meth.
