787-8=330-800
787-9=330-900
The high capacity two class quote from BOEING is 292. United’s standard international 3 class seating on the 767-300 is 214. I think about the same as ours. They did a some very low density seating but it’s not there normal config. I think they were for the transcon market when everyone went nuts on lie flats ect..

Range is not main the issue. It's payload and fuel efficiency. The 787-9 is more fuel efficient than the A350-900. In regular Delta configuration the 787-9 can take slightly less people without crazy weight restrictions for significantly more profit than the A350-900

ATL-JNB

ATL-NRT

ATL-ICN

JFK-NRT

LAX-SYD

The 787 can handle these routes with ease.
Moreover, the 787 can efficiently fly to cities that are within or exceed the range of the 767 but too big for the 330.

This is something I’m still struggling to understand. The 787-8 has an empty weight of about 65,000 pounds greater than the 767-300er. Is it really that much more efficient that it can fill the need economically speaking? Seems like too much plane for a 5-6 hour leg.

Boeing can list whatever they want. The fact of the matter is the 787-8 is a bigger beast than the 763 by far, and it’s really not any more effective than 330neo. Yes it’ll likely burn less, but factoring in extra fleet costs, etc, the margin isn’t massive. Using a 787 on 767 routes is just as overkill as using a 330.

787 is 9 across, 330 is 8, 763 is 7. I know which I’d prefer to ride in. It’s a step up from the 763, so the issue is what do you do until the hypothetical NMA comes? Order another fleet that doesn’t really do the job, or just grow a fleet you already have that is roughly the same capability wise (again, focusing on current 767 stuff, US-Europe/Africa/SA). We don’t do enough ULH stuff that can’t be covered by the eventual fleet of 35 359s. Again, the 787 isn’t some missing link for us. Give me more 330s all day, better for the bid pack with a nice variety of trips (when I can hold it...)

This really isn’t a rebuttal to you Denny, just a general question. If the aircraft are so similar what does Mama D know that the rest of the world is oblivious to? The 787 is a bestseller, the 330-900......well it’s basically just Delta and a couple of Red Shirts from Star Trek. No one else of note has bought it. For the record I like the 900, it’s comfy, but there has to be a good reason it’s so unpopular.

Edit: UAL has 257 seats in their 787-900’s with a 4 class. They upped that from 252 by removing a galley.
Sorry to correct but it’s like nails on a chalkboard. It’s 787-8 (not 800).

Is the 330-900 cheaper? Seems Delta gets caught on purchase price vs longevity of life operational costs.

Metal neutral Joint Ventures don't care what paint job is on the airplane.

The 787s are being consolidated at KLM and the A350 at Air France. Does WestJet need 20 787's to serve Calgary, a city the size of San Jose? Why is AeroMexico cutting it's fleet of 737's and increasing 787's?

We are just one part of a much larger puzzle.

Like I've been saying, we already have 787s they don't say Delta on the side but they do on the Eticket.
