Got my last choice 6 years ago lol. Think it just depends on a lot of factors...

The bottom 25ish percent of my class 5 years ago got the MD88... I'm pretty sure it was most of their last choice.

1*** hurts. Well, what’s a year of commuting in the grand scheme of things…

My class was in May of 2019. 80% of us got our last choice which was the 220 when there was only the NYC base. Only offerings were 73N and 220

Same...0's unite. Besides, it's only a temporary time period "at the bottom"...which is a huge step up from current job of being on call 24/7 w/o a set schedule.

I just want to get based at home sooner. But I'll keep quiet with my higher SS#

The OOBGS awards would have been available to any pilot at any base. With NYC being a 90% commuter base pilots tend to hawk out of base opportunities. With the current flux in routes everything is dynamic. NYC will always see a big demand for new hires as people bid out of NY at a far greater rate than any other base. The turnover in the bottom half of the 7ER list is huge in NY compared to the rest of the system.

I got my last choice -88, due to blazingly low last 4.

Turns out it was awesome time. I really enjoyed the -88. It was my first major airline "big jet" so it will probably always hold a sentimental place (right next to the F-16).

I stayed on it to almost the bitter end.

No matter the airplane or base, you'll have some fun here. We're all in this together. Sure, you will run across the rare and occasional extend/fatigue shamer, but they are a very very rare exception in our group.

So enjoy whatever plane/base you get. Learn from your captains. Get the feel for the flow of this operation.

The nice thing about DAL, we still have a large variety of fleet types, bases and flying (Int'l vs domestic) to choose from.

This is the most positive post I have ever seen from you. It’s refreshing.
