The fuel burn isn't some shot in the dark for a plane/engines that's been flying for years already.
just relaying info I got from people in the know

Of course, and thanks.

I'll try to remember to type in a flight plan sometime on icrew to see what they've got in there.

Anyone know why there hasn’t been any DTW 73NB on any drops recently? It’s been a couple months at least. It seems to be an understaffed category judging by the fact my phone rings off the hook every day with GS offers. Just curious why it hasn’t been included.

New type to overwater, new dispatchers that speak 321 but not Pacific, some pilots new to the theater, but not as many as one might assume. These little kinks will sort out; it’s not like saying “ everyone else flies some sort of 737, we can make a -900 work.”

Who’s going to forsake 2600 lb. fuel flows with nearly 200 folks seated?

It’s not a new type to overwater, unless you mean to us. Neos have been in Hawaii for a while now. It works well but even other airlines have had the occasional buy people off. To be honest that’s becoming standard anyways with the over sales.

I wrote in another thread that two days ago I had a conversation with a dispatcher about the NEO’s and Hawaii flying. He stated they were padding the fuel numbers by an additional 10-15% over etops mins until they were able to establish their own reliable baseline data. Those tech stops should be minimized moving forward.

This is a pretty standard practice. We have to establish our own data. Airlines don’t share their data amongst themselves (and why would they) and Airbus can only provide what the engineers think. We did this with the 220 and the 900neo. Nothing new. I’ve talked to JB guys that do a lot of island flying out of JFK and they discussed block fuel and it was significantly less than a standard 321. This will work itself out.

Ive seen the JB 321s that stop at SJU after leaving STT for JFK. Hopefully we don’t end up with this as an issue as well.

when we were introducing the MAX into our fleet we were doing something similar. The 9ER’s would go straight over and the MQX would tech stop in SFO. Come to find out they had to fly a certain amount of hours to get an actual idea what the fuel burn averages were gonna be like and until then they’d have to be given a buffer. It’s a non issue now and I suspect something similar will happen with y’all’s 321’s. I’m about a year it’ll be a much smoother experience.

Yes, new type to Hawaii for Delta. Plenty of info available from other operators, but not always heeded. That was the point of my 737 analogy; the numbers must have been "thin" going in, but Delta was convinced they could do wonders with the 737 fleet to Hawaii. For the NEO, the only real problem I've seen so far is a big hit departing OGG on a wet runway ... unlike a 757-200, a wet grooved runway isn't "dry" and Delta was not aware of that impact until the flight I was on highlighted the problem. I believe somebody else may have stated this already, but the SFO tech stops out of SEA were most likely a one-off thing that could have/should been avoided by flying a lengthier route outside the freakishly targeted Jetstream. It was a rookie dispatching oversight.
