If you like it, nothing at all. There is something for everyone here. “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure”, and all that.

Most folks consider it less desirable though.

The point is IF you want a particular piece of equipment, preference that over base, because you can change base almost immediately, as opposed to 1-2 years to change equipment.

Agreed, with the caveat that this is true only while we have regular AEs.

Thats what I’m thinking. The thing that changes your life more than anything in this business is living in base. I’d hate to bid a “more desirable” aircraft thinking I’d get back home by the time I’m off OE only to get stuck w a cross country commute for years instead of flying a 717 at home.

Years? There are always risks in any choice in this world. But while it’s not a zero chance, this is extremely, extremely unlikely. Not even one year in the foreseeable future.

FWIW, BS has said they plan on monthly AE’s indefinitely, I think he finally prevailed in convincing his bosses the flexibility was worth the churn. As long as that is happening, or even every other month, I would give the same recommendation. Even if we go back to quarterly AE’s like Pre-Covid, there are still circumstances when I’d still recommend equipment over base.

In the end, it’s “your” choice. I’d just like folks to just understand the choice being made, the tradeoffs, and the rewards.

Pay-band all aircraft paying equal, I do not think the 717 would stay junior. There is a lot to like, but I think the pay charts keep a lot of people away.

It is common and long-standing to have pay banding. AA has had Groups I, II, III, IV. It has a lot of justification and inertia. I doubt you would get a majority of pilots to agree to change it.

Oh I'm sure it'll never happen. Just trying to make the point that if the 717 didn't pay less (all pay equal), I do not think that the 717 would remain the junior airplane. There is a lot to like.

I'd argue that we almost already have AA's pay groups. Just like AA's group III, the 757/767 is a rate in between NB and WB, and the 717/221 is less than NB, ie group I.

Obviously the 223 and airbus have different rates, but in the grand scheme of things we're pretty much already there.

I get what you are saying, I do. But I respectfully disagree. The only pay band here is WB. The fact that less than a few dollars/hour separate rates within the same category, beliesan attitude by the company to take every place where they can. And the fact the 767-300 pays a NB rate is my closing argument.

I am unwilling to let the company off the hook by even lightheartedly talking about us having pay bands. Maybe next contract.
