thx for info
Base visit yesterday mentioned the 717s aren’t going anywhere, even more coming back into the system than previously thought. This is what drove the recent significant increase in Captain spots on the fleet in the recent AE.

As usual, believe it when you see it, till it arrives on the ramp and what not. But my opinion would be that if you arrive on the 717 over the next few months there is seniority to be had. 1000 New Hires by next summer (company goal and claimed to be on track for) have to go somewhere. All domestic fleets (717/220/73/320) will be added to the network next year.

73 ewr trips are also just ATL trips where you start at the outstation so no one wants them. Recently theyve been throwing LIR UVF and something else I can't remember to entice people to go after the trips. They just sick out on them or drop them so dont worry, youll have a pretty good pick.

Unless you're senior to me, then the 73 is all garbage don't come.

I'd guess either 73 or 320, but it changes, suddenly and radically.

For years it was the 717. No contest, not even close. Then the 73 and 320 took turns. For a little while the "EWR mafia" would ferociously write their reps demanding EWR trips, and suddenly they would multiply in the bid pack. The vast majority of the base despises them, so would call their reps saying "****?" and reps would say "we hear you loud and clear, 100% of NYC pilots lighting up our phones demand EWR trips!" then the silent majority would speak up and they'd be drastically reduced. This silly cycle went on for a while but now it seems to have stabilized closer to the minimum than the maximum most months.

Marketing is in charge of the airline now and they won't hesitate to make massive, sudden shifts with no warning. If one fleet can make one penny more for the next 1-12 months then they'll switch the current fleet's trip originations very abruptly. While that's probably more than you were asking, the point stands that no fleet has or ever will have reliably large amounts of EWR trips. What little there is will usually be snatched up by senior locals more often than not. So it all depends on how much better EWR is for you than JFK/LGA. If EWR is a dream drive and JFK/EWR are nightmares, seriously consider commuting to whatever base is easiest to get to from PHL. If you could drive to all 3 without too much hassle (at all hours, all traffic, all weather) then obviously bid NYC ASAP and hope for the best each month for EWR.

One variable is a possible BOS base if that commute would be easier than other current bases. It was pre-announced in 2019 for 2020 but then you know what happened so it got back burner'd but IMHO will be back next year sometime. Most likely it will be the 320 based on past and current trends.

Anyway good luck!

I sense that you’re trying to help me and I appreciate it… it didn’t work.

And I don't know why you singled out just military pilots. Literally every pilot who started class after the EDV guys were put on the list are in the same boat.

And honestly the end result is still the same, because if Delta didn't delay the EDV pilot's actual indoc dates then they would already be on property and still on the seniority list in the exact same spot.
I guess my point is that ideally they would get to go to their “intended class” and get their actual seniority number along with an employee number in my fantasy land of just moving all that flying to mainline. I get they wrote it into the LOA but let the poor people come here already. Go hire more. If they’re already hiring everyone they can then great. No complaint against the 9E guys, just annoyed at another loophole exploited. Gotta suck to have “EDV” next to your name on the AE instead of an employee number. But I don’t know - maybe they’re just happy not to go to NYC.

No one is saying that it’s the best setup, and I think we’d all agree it would be best for it to play out as you stated - hired and in class all at the same time. It’s just one of those things that is out of our hands completely so I’m not going to waste energy fretting over it.

Surprised someone at PHL would choose delta over United(EWR) or American (PHL). Guess that means they think pretty highly of Delta. Cool
