Yep. Throw in one or two great layovers per trip, lower time on actual duty, few or no plane changes versus 1-2 a day, 1-2 legs a day versus 3-5, and having easy report and release times versus the 5am/11pm nonsense is well worth "losing" a calendar day off in theory.

5 days can be excellent QOL trips if they're built right. We're conditioned to place massive, near absolute, value on calendar days off. But that often doesn't tell the whole story. Some of the best QOL I've had were 5 days, both living in base and as a commuter. Low leg 5 day trips that are hyper-commutable on both ends and great layovers are far, far better than crap 5am report, 11pm release 4 days with short rests, more legs and constant plane changes. Better for commuters as well as in base pilots' QOL in many cases.
I do agree that 80% or more 4-5 days is very excessive. A healthy trip mix helps everyone.

My jam would be 1-day or 3-day trips, T/W/TH. There is a good mix of 3-5 day trips, which is great for the commuters, but there needs to be more 1 and 2 days. More is a bad term since we haven't had 1 days in ky cateogey for a bit. I think we have one 2-day this month.
