Just to be fair, it was RA’s best and final offer. He didn’t sign TA2.
-signed a TA1 No vote

Two things were responsible for TA2. RA leaving dropping the contract in EB’s lap who could not really allow his transition to begin with a massive labor dispute and United pattern bargaining off our TA1. A key part of a successful negotiation is bringing your competitors up with you.

I know it can be hard to give credit where credit is due, but I can think of roughly 10,000 other things (people) responsible for TA2 - the No voters. In the end, it doesn’t matter what management and the MEC think they are crafting or what they hope will or won’t pass; post-C2015 I think any deal is legitimately going to have to sell itself.

Hint: They have worse work rules and are qualified on all equipment.

As far as 5 day trips Delta did not do them. Post merger with NWA they eliminated them in the NWA bases. Huge complaints from pilots so they brought them back because we asked for them. Be careful what you ask for!
DTW wanted them in the merger. 5 day domestic trips need to go bye bye. Or we need limits to how many. 80% of trips that are 4 days or greater is insane.

I’m sure I didn’t illuminate the (smaller) point well, so... It’s not that I expect him to say anything like your example, it’s that regardless of how hard they pound the table, we need to remember what was said in C15. And that despite that, when we resoundingly said “No!”, they came back with more. Don’t necessarily take the first deal, just because the CEO is talking tough. We called their bluff and won.

Having said all that, it is possible to call a bluff and lose, so each deal must be weighed by each pilot in full context.

Though I hate 4 and 5 day trips, I'm ok with keeping 5 days for the commuters, but you're spot on with the percentage of 4 and 5 day trips. Having zero 1 and 2 day trips is terrible and should be unacceptable.

Not at all. The wisdom and engagement of he membership is what created TA2. When the document (TA1) was scrutinized by the 10,000+ members and aided by the internet and specifically this site, the obvious short fall was evident to the average line pilot. Yellitelli made a bad deal and sealed his failure with an early SCOPE settlement that angered and sold out section 1.

5 days can be excellent QOL trips if they're built right. We're conditioned to place massive, near absolute, value on calendar days off. But that often doesn't tell the whole story. Some of the best QOL I've had were 5 days, both living in base and as a commuter. Low leg 5 day trips that are hyper-commutable on both ends and great layovers are far, far better than crap 5am report, 11pm release 4 days with short rests, more legs and constant plane changes. Better for commuters as well as in base pilots' QOL in many cases.

I do agree that 80% or more 4-5 days is very excessive. A healthy trip mix helps everyone.

As a commuter, I’ll take the 5 days as well. Better mix across all days, though, would be good.
