I’ve had 14 check-rides in the Air Force with no failures, but I would honor the check-ride and study and prepare like I always do but that would take time and effort where I’d most likely put the airlines on hold until after the check-ride was completed. I could potentially retire prior to March 31st though with terminal leave and such. The main advantage of doing that would be to solely focus on the airlines with the interview prep and everything else that goes with getting hired and not getting the “come back in 6 months thing”. I could potentially go fly for regional as well if the majors do not hire me by then. Also, trying to post in the correct forum, so apologize if this question is in the wrong spot.

Thanks

The airlines don’t care when your last check ride was, only if you’ve failed any events, and if you’ve flown in the last 12 months (generally).

If I were in your shoes I would be going full bore on retiring ASAP and focusing on getting hired by the airlines. I’d skip the check ride and focus solely on getting a seniority number most ricky tick.

As a fellow 20 year USAF retiree, I welcome you to the check of the month club!

If you next goal is an airline job, then you should do everything you can to get hired ASAP!!! I can't stress this enough.......DL and UA are hiring 200 a month...and seniority is EVERYTHING!

DL doesn't care that you did 14 vice 15 check rides while on Active Duty....see above...get hired ASAP!!

Not sure of what you have done up to this point, but in case you haven't:

1) Fill out app ASAP...get it professionally reviewed...lots of good reviews for Checked and Set...once you are 100% happy, publish the app

2) Interview Prep: Do it! Emerald Coast Interview Consulting is the most popular in my opinion...been doing it a long time...good track record for success

3) Online assessment prep: Ready Set Takeoff (RST) or Cut-E are what most guys are using.

What he said.

realize that going from zero to a 95+% ready app, prepped for interview, and prepped for tests can take 6-9 months … and that’s if it’s pretty high on your list of **** to get done. I usually advise guys heading towards 20 to start networking and figuring things out at the 18 year point.

If you’re past 20, and thinking about retiring and going to the airlines, and you haven’t started yet… you’re late!

What time is the interview typically completed? Trying to gauge some flight options prior to my scheduled flight.

I was done by 2pm, but I went first for almost every part of the interview (alphabetically by last name). I think the latest you’ll be there is 5pm. I booked a 8pm flight home.

Interview coming

My interview is Jan 12, wondering if someone else will be there that day? I have heard some people go out the night before the interview.

The variable part is the zoom interview with the psychologist. They had some technical issues with mine and I didn’t get done til 5. But most everybody else was gone by then. I barely made my 640pm flight out. If you’re lucky and got first for everything then you can finish by 2.

I had to correct some erroneous info that was accidentally transcribed wrong (from what I could tell)--SSN and DOB. Once those were completed on D+4 from receiving the email to submit PRIA et al, I had all other information to Cisive at D+6. Received a class date 2 weeks later. Cisive customer service/tech support was helpful in providing generic status updates. I needed to lean on my current training department to submit my records and the day they did, Delta provided a class date w/.in 2 hrs. Your results might vary.

FWIW, if you are able and willing to take an earlier class date, let them know. People cancel, or need to move to a later class for a variety of reasons and if you can start sooner, it can be advantageous. It was for me, and I'm glad to be in class before my originally scheduled interview (all due to open slots and cancellations etc).
