DL pilot recruiting has always said this explicitly. One such example was in a video that Captain Holmes put out when he was head of hiring. He specifically said Delta Pilot Selection loved the requirement, said it was a valuable metric for predicting future success, and is just something that’s part of the Delta hiring culture.
Obviously those principles were compromised when they needed every warm body they can get. The truth is not always kind. |
Any official news about how many we’re gonna hire in 2025?
Last I heard was 600-800. |

Last I heard was 600-800. Aside from the LCA rumor-mill having a dubious history, I’ll believe it when I see it. But still… Would be good for someone to ask at the ATL Base Visit on Wednesday. There is also a Flight Standards meeting this month. |

I heard from an LCA buddy, who heard from an APD buddy after a recent meeting of those types that current plan was notably less than that. Basically hiring for attrition UFN.

There’s not a major amount of fleet growth coming next year. Slight NB and WB gains, offset partially by retirements of some 75/76/320s. 600-800 wouldn’t surprise me, I think retirements are in the 400-500 range.
600 doesn’t sound crazy if we put together what I heard and what Fangs said. Hopefully hiring picks up again if/when the Max arrives. |

Scroll down to the bottom at https://www.airlinepilotcentral.com/...elta_air_lines and you can find projected retirements. Lapav67 is pretty spot on.

Last I heard was 600-800. The MAX debacle is going to have some wide rippling effects on staffing for the next 2 years. I would be preparred. This is the air line industry. |
