I might add…even though you will hear that in the interview they may say we are hiring “Captains”….don’t listen to the few that say all the captains wear New Balance shoes with their Levi jeans with NO belt. I wouldn’t show up in that “capt” attire😎. By the same token, you don’t need to show them how hip of “millennial” you are with a Louis Vuitton murse hung proudly on your shoulder.😰. Clonish…dare I say even boring, is the go too staple attire….dark suit, white shirt with a conservative tie. That worked 30+ years ago and still applies today. Men’s Warehouse or Macy’s or even Nordstrom sale, off the rack, works well as long as you get a decent fit. Worked for my kids fairly recently with 3 interviews and CJO’s. Kid spent about $200 at Men’s Warehouse and also at Macy’s (not saying you need 2 suits). I also suggest wearing the suit for a few times prior to interview so it feels comfortable…..good luck as show them your best.

Agree with this. I bought a leather courier bag (mostly because I wanted one), but some guys had regular crappy backpacks, some guys had leather briefcases, some guys had helmet bags.

The interviewers will never see it, so it really doesn't matter. It'll be put away as soon as you go into the Pilot Selection office.

Since we're on the subject of bringing items to the interview. If you check out of the hotel in the morning prior to your interview and bring along your suitcase, is there a place to leave it during the interview? I'd prefer not to leave anything back at the hotel and then have to double back there after the interview before trying to catch a flight home.

There’s a bag room in pilot selection office. You will have adequate space for all your things to stay until complete. Another tip on the “briefcase;” it doesn’t matter what it is. I’d advise to have some sort of bag to carry the paperwork you’ll turn in within the first five minutes (logbooks, mil records, other forms they ask for) and then it will go into the bag room. It’s nice to have all the stuff in one spot to not dig through your crap and look disheveled.

Also, just from what I gathered in my experience in August. Do what makes you comfortable. I went out and bought a new suit. Ultimately, to me it felt stiff and rigid, so I went with a black suit I’ve had for years. Had just been dry cleaned as a backup. But it was broken in and I felt freedom of movement with it and it made me comfortable. They could care less. I was hired in a black suit, met guys hired in a blue suit and gray suit. Assortment of ties. Wear what’s comfortable and makes you feel confident and that you won’t second guess yourself. If that’s a red tie, great. If it’s a blue tie, do it. They openly said it makes no difference. Be professional, be organized, be prepped and do what makes you feel gives you the best version of yourself on D-Day.

Having said all that, it’s as laid back a day as you can imagine. They are all super inviting and ready to hear your “story.” Own mistakes, show you learned from them, and be positive and smile (through the mask).
