They actually stated on many occasions that the very survival of the airline hinged on getting down to 3 fleet types however that was for the current Delta system. They crunched the numbers and felt the combined NW/Delta network had the potential to produce far more revenue than fleet simplification and the smaller Delta footprint. It seems they made the correct decision and they have not totally abandoned fleet simplification as witnessed by the last two years. It’s very difficult to attempt any fleet reductions in times of rapid growth. It’s much simpler in the tough times. Times were very tough during their 3 fleet type attempt.

Did you read what NW said about their cargo operation pre merger? Did the shift to HND as the preferred Japanese International airport have any effect on our NRT hub?

Poor attempt at humor. Not sure when you were hired, but if you haven't had the pleasure of listening to someone opine about SOPA/SMAC, you will. Same with every time you pass a 747 and someone mutters...can't make money with 747s. Or passing a 787...sure wish we had 787, we even had a sim... I'm not necessarily in disagreement, but it could almost be it's own bingo game.
