Any "Latest & Greatest about Delta?" Part 2
This assumes the same airplane, no? If everyone misses their "thing" regularly and walk arounds are short in general across the fleet, then that makes me want to take more time, not less.
Once with flew with a cappy that was either on his phone or surfing open time….constantly. He ran like 2 gas n sips, and from the way he spoke on the phone, you’d a thought he was running the Manhattan Project. Between that, him constantly working open time and *****ing about the company and how everyone was out to rip him off, he gave the absolute minimum interaction towards the job at hand. Miserable person to fly with.

I wholeheartedly disagree with the crazy MEL part.
If I have a complex MEL that affects us THAT much, it's going to be an active discussion between the two. I want the FO to be the second set of eyes to make sure we don't make a mistake.
"Hey so it says (read verbatim). I'm interpreting that to mean ABC, so we need to do XYZ about it. Do you agree?".
Any situation that arises that requires all of my time is an abnormal situation. That automatically becomes my delay code and we push when we're both ready. Use that fourth stripe to make time.

My point is, there are occasionally situations that do require all the the captain's time. They are rare.
My TL,DR point is that it's fine to be a captain who doesn't want to do walk arounds. Don't pretend that it has anything to do with safety though.

Having a hard time catching your drift here.
Is this sarcasm? If so, it's not well received.
I was merely providing anecdotal info to crewdawg about things I've seen on walk arounds in my many years here.
But then there's the 73 that was flying around for like 6 legs with a nice tail/belly scrape before someone caught it (it was actually a tech ops person doing their quick check). So we got that going for us - which is nice.

Ah, found the problem. Zero of my planes have ever arrived at less than D-60 (my internal clock). Regardless of what the time on the board says, you should be spending the same amount of time doing your safety checks. Don't be the CA who rushes to meet company metrics, for no reason. Now... can I turn a plane around in under 30 minutes, if everything goes smoothly, I still take my time, an early out is posted, and I happen to be ready? Sure, happens all the time. But if you're letting the company's delayed turn time shorten anything in your processes, you're doing it wrong.
Lots of dudes I fly with start with, "we have no reason to rush, ever." Must be another west coast thing.
Per the survey metrics, my last year still had better than company-average D-0. But I have and will take delays if we need to.

really? FO on both the 737 and ER, a solid mix of NY and ATL, and I had exactly 1 ca that didn’t do walk arounds on their legs (barring something weird they needed to manage). That 1 ca acknowledged they didn’t like walk arounds and bought coffee /breakfast every morning instead.

What I can't understand is where did sharing walk arounds originate? It was always the FE's job on the 3 man planes and the FO's on the two man. If a capt. chooses to, that's up to him/her/they/them. I started to do them domestically when I learned the FO's would do all my work inside if I took long enough moseying around outside
I also split the legs out and back, but usually did the first out and back if we'd never flown together. The problem we are seeing now is FO's that expect the capt to do the walk around an give attitude when capts don't. FO's won't win this argument with the CPO.
