This is the first I’ve heard that the 330-900 has been a flop. How often are we flying them under 1,000 miles?

I don’t think the 339 is a “flop” it just doesn’t hit its stride for burn until the longer legs. I wonder if we end up putting the D1 suites in the 332/333. Those jets will be more than enough for most of the east coast-Europe stuff that doesn’t need high MTOW.

Sales have been terrible. Many of the orders they are carrying on the books will never be delivered. Delta basically is the A330-900. The under 1000 mi,e issue does not effect Delta much but has impacted sales.

That’s fine, we made a killing with the unwanted MD-90 and 717. 330neo shouldn’t be as much of an issue with long term MX, considering it’s mostly the regular 330. I believe we can overhaul the T7000 in house, so that alleviates rhe #1 issue with the MD-90.

Boeing’s 777X has seen similarly sluggish sales, not many places are being widebodies en masse right now.

Triple spool =/= twin spool GTF.

GTFs were break even on LGA-BOS legs back in the early R&D days.

(I was an engineer at Pratt & Whitney Commercial Engines pre-Navy and worked on the early design in the mid 90s. Yes, they have been in work that long)

MD-11 had substantial performance misses very early on. I don’t think the 330neo has had anything to that degree. The MD-11 also timed itself poorly, a trijet just as the 330 and 777 starting taking over the ocean crossing mantle.

The 777X still has more orders than the A330-900 and is not even in service. The good news is Delta always seems to make orphan aircraft work and work well in our fleet.

Full disclosure, I didn’t watch it, yet.

BRING ON MORE WIDE BODIES!
There are 20 717’s sitting in San Bernardino. 4 have been canabalized, 16 flyable. This is from a mechanic friend of mine that has actually seen them.
Quantas recently parked their 20 71’s. I’ve been told they have a different engine? Also heard a startup in Miami has bought them.

GlobalX, want to be a street captain? https://globalairlinesgroup.com/careers.html

20 717s coming back would be a rather staunch bit of growth next year, on top of the 220/321 deliveries and used 737s hitting the line, plus new 339s and used 359s.
