I showed my wife the picture of the two options. She said why would they decide to go to double breasted? Turns out for the nearly 15 years I’ve been at Delta my wife had no idea our jackets were double breasted.

I saw him lecturing another bellhop about how unprofessional it is to not be wearing the hat, and how he knew the hat was a requirement when he applied.
He also mentioned that hotel management will start cracking down and firing employees at the already short-staffed hotel who aren’t wearing this “iconic” symbol.

Probably thinks the double breasted makes you look like a dork, instead of an incredibly sexy, hip, cool airline pilot available for one night, uh, "conversations" when on the road with pilot-curious strange women.

Fascinating discussion,
To me, the "brand" argument falls flat when you remember the majority of consumers would easily mistake us for a bell hop.
You want brand image? Make sure your uniform fits (however many breasts), shine your shoes, look and act like a professional. I can tell you that I have a much easier time doing that in a modern single breasted jacket than a 1930s horse blanket.
To each their own, I guess that's why they are giving us the option.

Between the uniform, plastic wings/cards, and smiling parents, you're locking in future customers for a long time, not to mention the parents love it.
(You're right about fit, ironing, and shoe shines though. Good lord.)

Ever had small kids run up to you in the terminal and say "Hi Pilot!" Best part of the job.

Hard take: Those who say “no one cares” are creating an excuse to look like garbage. We’ve seen it play out. Every ten years we as a society look less put together. It’s unfortunate.
Look good. Wear the uniform in good order. Say “Thank you,” to passengers before bolting off the plane. It’s not difficult. It’s the job. If you hate that stuff, UPS is hiring.

I LOVE carrying wings and collector cards in my pockets. I hand them out all the time. The kids LOVE it.
