Well I'll be damned. Good looking out. Thought restrictions only applied to Management types with inside info. Turns out all employees prohibited from options, hedging, shorting, or using margin.

But are they looking? If you were shorting the stock and intending to do harm, I think that would be different than investing in an upswing. You are correct, the question is are they looking at calls? How much would it cost them to investigate this over 80,000 employees over how many possible brokerage firms out there?

Criminal and civil penalties may apply, along with presumably disciplinary action by the company if you color outside the lines. Never been a company stock person; I was a bit I surprised after reading the ins/outs of potential pitfalls on the company employee website after my curiosity was piqued from this thread.
Company has names and phone numbers on the net you can call/email if you have any questions about what you can/can’t do. Seems much easier than rolling the dice and saying “I won’t get caught..probably.”
