I could be making this up…but I thought there was some agreement that they had to live there or something. I can’t remember exactly what it was but I thought there was some sort of disincentive to prevent senior mama’s from bidding in temporarily for seniority.

Scoop
The senior purser I mentioned above lives in Tampa, he said he would continue to commute to the good international trips out of ATL but in the case of a problem getting to ATL (think winter wx) he can always put his ATL international trip on the swap board to dump it, and then pick up something in TPA. Sort of like our out of base WS.

No, I don't think you're imagining it. Sailing said that previous with the AFP bases like TPA, there was a preference for those that lived within 75 miles or something. I don't think these new bases (LAS, etc) have that restriction. But I'm not a FA, I just know the generalities of it.

I don't have access to Delta net as a retiree. Just search AFP and I bet the old rules are still in there. One of the problems with AFP bases back then is that with the exception of RDU they flew mostly long turns. When you pull long legs out of the pool of legs to build rotations it degrades the quality of the trips you can build for the original base. You need those long legs on the 3 and 4 day trips to get the overall value up. When you yank the long legs you get 3 day trips worth 14 hours. With the F/A work rules the company does not care as it cost them nothing. Our contract would heavily penalize the company if they built more turns in pilot rotations. With the F/A's they can build turns for the senior flight attendants but it hammers the junior ones. They don't know why they are getting hammered and the senior ones with great schedules keep union enthusiasm down.
