I am paid to fly the skybus. I do it fairly well, safely. That is actually my job.
Being a leader you don't have to do or even be able to do everything. Knowing who to call and when is more what you need.
Kid comes up to cockpit? I'm Captain Friendly.
I get hit up for cards by guy live blogging while I'm walking to/from a flight? Sorry man, I'm out. (kid got 3)

I had a TSA agent ask for a card. The answer was, “I have plenty, but you can go **** yourself along with the hypocritical, bureaucratic, worthless organization that you work for.” Then I politely said, “sorry, I’m out.” Thankfully I didn’t say what I was thinking.

And I’ll still need to very carefully examine all three of those IDs, even though you’ve already been randomly selected not to receive a card and you’re about to present your ID to the next pilot.

A lot of people like to rage against the machine. Railing against a government bureaucracy can be therapeutic . But, taking one's ire out on the "bot" that is just doing his duty as prescribed by the .gov seems a might juvenile.
The aircraft cards don't personally cost a pilot anything. A smile and a nice gesture might make inroads in securing a more palatable relationship individually and professionally, not just to benefit you, but the next guy coming thru the TSA checkpoint. Maybe they want to give it to their kid to instill the idea of "possibilities" in their budding prodiginy. Seems like a worthwhile endeavor at 3rd hand mentorship.
Posts were funny....I laughed. Just wanted to add another perspective.
Several years ago I was standing in line to check in for an international DH in normal street clothes. A pax at the counter seemed "excited". He proceeded to get his phone out and swipe his pictures to show me a picture of his child and me together in the cockpit handing his kid a card while wearing my hat and sitting at the controls(8 months previously!!!!). Small gestures of kindness(which cost nothing) can make inroads to make our environment a better place.
Just my $.03...... inflation, dontcha know!

That said, if one of them asks me for a card for their kid, I’ll be providing one if I actually have any.
