are you a management plant? You're certainly not a unionist.

Additionally, there is no way the company agrees to PTO without blackout dates, which renders it worthless. Pilots' families can get sick over PWA holidays, things can be going on in pilots' lives over holidays, and we know damn well Delta will never give up the control they are accustomed to with open-ended PTO. No-questions-asked use of sick time/PTO is a mirage in the Delta management desert.

What if we're actually sick 63% of the time?

Here is what I’d like to see regarding our sick leave provisions.

1. Get rid of the “good faith basis” provisions. If someone is abusing the system then deal with those people. Don’t penalize the entire pilot group.

2. Sick leave basically becomes PTO. We can use it when we need to. Things happen. People get sick. Or, something pops up and you need some time off. That’s life and the company needs to stop treating us like children. At the negotiating table every time the company pushes back on this just bring up all the millions that have been stolen from us through the lack of pay transparency and just stare at them. They act like we are all huge sick leave abusers but what about the millions they’ve stolen from us and all the times they’ve willfully chosen to violate our contract.

3. Any unused sick time can be carried over from year to year. No limits on this. This could be especially beneficial because as we all age we will have more health problems and being able to carry from year to year will allow us to tap into a larger sick bank before going on disability.
What you propose would certainly be a massive quality of life improvement. Pilots over 16 years could take 6 months a year off and even pilots after 10 years 5 months or so. The only question I have is who would actually fly the airplanes for Delta especially in the summer months when manning would be near zero? Would you allow contract pilots or should Delta just shut down for the summer?

the airlines that have sick time structured like this get substantially less sick time every year

We just need to get rid of the good faith harassment. The problem isn't getting a note but the hassle. If you go over 120 then you are already seeing a doctor. The few day head and sinus cold once a season is the issue.

I agree. GFB and verification need to end all together. I will say though, things were much nicer when we had verified/unverified sick banks and proactive verification. That was a HUGE give in 16.

Totally agree with that. Bringing back voluntary verification would solve most complaints (other than GFB). And leave the trigger alone, since not every instance of being “unable to exercise the privileges of a Class I” require seeing a healthcare provider.

It’s mental health awareness month. I know because it’s been in every newsletter and update this month. You know what I’d love to hear the company’s response to that reason on a GFB call.

I worked Pro Standards in a previous company. Every call, somewhere in the crew interview it was revealed that a crew member was not “in the green.” This is a huge threat mitigation for me since. If things in my life are too stressful or distracting, I’m not going to be focused enough flying. Sick call.

If what the company says is true I’d love to know what I’m supposed to do if I get a GFB call and while physically fine, I did not pass my IMSAFE checklist. Nobody wants to be that poster child but it’s all I think about when I read the corporate speak about mental health.
