I wonder if it’s worth it to also replace the 332s with 359s and try to sell the 332s as cargo aircraft while they still have some life in them.

I thought the Delta way was fly the jets till they cycle out excluding the 777’s.

All of our 330's are still babies. The oldest will still be here 10 years from now. Same with the 767-400's.

and I have no doubt our older 330-300s will be sticking around, but I could definitely see a business case to sell less than a dozen of our highest CASM WB to buy more efficient aircraft. Especially if it’s a deal we can broker through AB for them to do the P2F conversion.

I am not sure what the market might be for a A330-200F. Freighters tend to cube out before they run out of weight. They are converting and selling the 200F however. Still I suspect the 300’s will be in big demand for conversion.

Delta is down to 38 767-300er’s. We also sadly sold the 7 newest airframes that were delivered after 2000 to Amazon Air in 2021. There was a gap in 767 deliveries so they were significantly newer than most of the fleet. This was probably a bigger error than dumping the 777 but never discussed.

getting rid of the ERs in Covid may have hurt us short term, but they had a more direct replacement than the 772LRs. The 330 can do what the ER did, better and more fuel efficient. I know for awhile there the 350 struggled on a lot of what the 777 did. But with the newer increased gross weight 350s it sounds like that gap is closing. Hopefully the 350-1000 keeps narrowing that gap.
as far as 330 conversions, I’ve really only seen -200s as freighters. There may be -300s out there, but it seems like most are 200s because like you said, pretty much if it fits it ships, kinda like the MD11.

Delta should not wait until 2027 to order 787s. Better to order them now to get a place in line.
Boeing said their goal was to clear the backlog of over 900 deliveries by 2033. Right now they are producing 7 planes a month but trying to get to 16 a month by 2027. Also by 2027 I bet they have another 500 orders. They are already 18 months behind deliveries and the future delivery schedule is just going to get more full as Boeing pipeline is full. Waiting until 2027 to hope that Boeing will cancel other airlines delivery slots and slide Delta in isn't a bet I'd want to make if I was trying to optimize fleet makeup. United originally only ordered 100 planes and got a delivery schedule to 2032, but when we added 50 more firm options, those extra 50 are coming between 2028 and 2031 because Boeing said those were the only open slots they had in their pipeline.
Why not just get more A-350s. They seem to be great planes.

Neither is Boeing….Delta is negotiating with Airbus in public.
All the Delta pilots talking/keyboarding about a hypothetical 787 order is exactly what the company wants. Make Airbus sweat a little bit.
Thanks for doing your part, now expect an Airbus order anytime.
