Delta 56 Severe Turbulence

Upgrading didn't change my perspective since I've been a Captain/Aircraft Commander before.
It did show me how self-stroking DL captain culture is. I've never seen such contempt for SIC's/FO's anywhere else I've flown. Everything here is much more PIC centered, almost like the implication permeating everything is that FO's are these mouth breathing cavemen that are only good for slinging gear, flaps and being ballast.

Did we have insufferable captains back then? Yes. One in particular on the L1011. Good grief, he was a piece of work I tell you. The guy ran a tight ship though and he was very knowledgeable and a pretty dang good pilot. As much as he was a pain to fly with, I'd trust him when the crap hit the fan in a heartbeat. Any pilot group is going to have their fair share of insufferable pr!%*&$. It just comes with the territory. You learn to deal with it as an SO (back when new hires flew sideways) or FO.
Having sat in many meetings with our industry partners, I disagree that DAL is a more "PIC centric" place. PIC is PIC in the majors. The industry has shifted to a better place than when I was first hired, that's a fact. Many of you here have no idea what is was like 25+ years ago. We've definitely improved, as have all the others in this regard. I'll add, 25+ years ago this was a very fun place to fly and work. We had a good time and everyone seemed to get along. Not so much these days. The only constant is change.

I'm gonna use this next time I fly with an area code FO and I'm gonna say it with a straight face

IDK where this mentality comes from. It seems to come from a certain demographic and background. I was happy to just get hired here back in the day, and despite our warts and all, I'm happy I've been fortunate enough to have a pretty dang good career here are DAL.

I was speaking to FO side as well. We have some real dirtbags out there on that side as well.

I've been lucky here. So far no issues with FO's, but I did have quite a few dirtbags back SkyWest. If I heard my FO say "I was a UND CFI and daddy is a 330 Captain" I knew it was gonna be a rough trip

Anecdotal, but as a somewhat senior (yet still relatively new to Delta) NB FO that bid better and better REG lines, I found myself flying with more and more senior captains. While it wasn't all bad, it was interesting how the dynamic shifted towards "I'd like to fly with that person less" as I bid more senior-type trips.
Then I switched to bidding reserve, and if I fly at all, it generally trends towards more junior trips. It has been like a breath of fresh air, both in schedule, and who I end up flying with. I'm not age-biased, and was hired later in life than most.
Wait, what was this thread about again?
