The OOBWS acknowledgment rate is minuscule. It slows coverage, forcing the company to go to IA (and soon QS), without meaningfully increasing the number of trips that the company is able to cover at straight pay rather than premium pay. Put GS above OOBWS, and the company will be able to cover more trips at 2x pay rather than 3x pay for a QS + M7. If it was a win 5 years ago, it's a win today. Just because it's worth more now doesn't mean it's not a win and nothing says it has to be the only thing extracted. I'd rather it be covered by GS than QS. M7 is great and all, but what % of the group is actually getting M7? A win for them doesn't always mean an overall loss for us. |

If you put GS above OOBWS today, without changing anything else, total pilot payroll decreases as does section 6 leverage. How is that a win for our PWA value as a whole? Could it be combined with other changes to make it a win? Sure. But as many have said repeatedly, the quid will need to be enormous for the company to buy its way out of this debacle. |
People keep saying that the only motivation the company has to actually implement QS is the temporary loss of sick verification. But I think there’s also another big driver that will push the company to get QS implemented ASAP, and that is it will greatly speed up last minute coverage and prevent significant delays/cancellations. Looks like a huge amount of OT in ATL right now due to the wx this morning. How long is it taking for people to wait on hold to actually talk to a scheduler right now? How many trips won’t get covered because no one can get through to scheduling in time? Having a process to quickly cover trips that doesn’t involve actually having to talk to a scheduler will greatly improve the company’s ability to cover trips in an IROP (which seems to be every day). I think this will motivate them to get QS coding done quickly as much or even more than trying to get sick verification back.

I agree with you in principle. But when was the last time the company made a timely, successful IT improvement to benefit their operation?

OOBWS going below in base green slips preserves the seniority and flying opportunities of the pilots in that base. It also would protect green slip coverage. Ya payroll would go down but who is being harmed? The pilot who we all know is 99% unlikely to be able to fly the trip they got skipped for? Not hatin the players but the game is f’ed. |
