Whats next? Flying struck work?
FWIW, there was ONE IA in my category (NYC 7ERA) last month. I flew it. I called after the IA call. I waited on hold 2 minutes. No deals. With all ALPA has said about deal making, just knowing it's bypassing any sort of even remotely following the contract, you know you are just making it worse where the company can and probably will throw dealmakers out as an example in their favor the next time we end up in some RLA proceedings? Nah, all about you. It's cool to cheat because someone else is cheating. |

So the company is just blatantly ignoring 23R1 right? Not even moving the pilot to the back of the all list?
I mean, if they were actually honoring the contract, they would contact the very minor pilot, get an answer/availablitity, then move on without allowing you out of the “assignment” unless out of position/alcohol/childcare reasons. But that’s not what they do. They robo call the entire category in the span of a few seconds, technically abiding by the “junior up” requirement. But then they ignore seniority completely, and even allow you to turn them down if you call. |

Yup.

Coverage ladder worked great at a smaller airline that was fully staffed with available reserve pilots. It was never meant for the airline to both grow this big and run this leam.
Move in base GS below OOBWS and the ladder will work just fine. Yes we should get more gains with this, as the current situation is worth more than this swap, but it should be in there.

The company has evidently decided it is cheaper to pay 3x than to hire new pilots to sit reserve. That is their choice. Quick slips will solve the IA free for all, but obviously will not level 23M7 payments.
Ya, the company has the very scary "no lookback" hanging over their head, QS should be implemented any day now...

Is it all that surprising? When you see the top page in your category collecting all the M7, while all the premium (or even WS in some cases) goes junior and they're not even covering IA within the contract, what do you think guys are going to do? Not saying I agree with it, but I understand it. It will definitely get worse until something is fixed. |

I don't know where this notion that the premium goes junior is coming from. You can count the number of people between me and the plug in my category on your fingers. I'm literally as junior as it gets. When it's IA palooza my phone either doesn't ring, or when it does the timestamp on the robocall is 20 min ago. A handful of times that it was close I actually tried to call only to be told someone else already took it. There's nothing inverse about IAs. It's not called out in inverse seniority, they just spam as much of the category as they can in one go to see who bites.
Even at my seniority I could usually cobble together 4-5 GS per year. Usually shorter trips at the last minute, but a GS is a GS and when you're junior you don't get to be picky. That's exactly the type of trip that now gets spammed as an IA, and ARCOS has been silent since this summer. It's easily costing me at least 15k per year. The M7 farmers and the deal makers are making out like bandits at the expense of the rest of the pilot group across all seniority levels. I can see why people get frustrated and start making deals too, because I've definitely thought about it as well. Ultimately I don't because I can't bring myself to it, I've just accepted I'll make a bit less money and shifted my strategy to staying at home, working as little as possible while collecting reserve guarantee, SCC, and a bit of soft pay from when I do fly. |

If the union is telling you not to make deals then don’t make deals. |

I think this is totally the wrong attitude. Greed at the expense of your fellow pilots will be our undoing. If you miss out on a premium pay trip because someone jumped the gun that’s on them. QS will fix the free for all.
If the union is telling you not to make deals then don’t make deals. I agree that making your own deals is the wrong attitude, but I understand how the deal makers don't see themselves as any different than the sudden rush of auto-accepter/M7 farmers. Both are just trying to score easy money when they otherwise wouldn't have. |
