Im not sure if hes still there but at least one of those dps guys is one of our new hires that got cancer and company didnt grab him as a sli insttuctor. They made him to the dps thing.

Make damn sure we get any of those guys on as slis please, if we drop dps.

Funny story as it was relayed to me by an SLI who lives in base housing. Contract 2019 gets signed, and the previous loosey goosey language that SLIs had lived under was now codified & strengthened in their own section of the contract.

So the training department goes about business as usual and try to run rough over the SLIs as usual and change things up, someone finally said no to them, read the contract.

They said it was like watching a dog run into a sliding glass door. Apparently nobody in management pointed out to the training overlords that they can't do that any more, along with a bunch of other new restrictions.

Big meetings follow, what the heck, who agreed to this and a whole lot of finger pointing. Would have been fun to listen in on that.

I can't believe there are so many pilots getting bent out of shape when other pilots get a good deal. "They shouldn't get X." Jeez. How about we fight for more good deals instead of trying to rip good deals from others.

Have to have a class 1 to be an SLI. There are many guys who lost medical working for DPS, I'm glad it's an option.

There is the option of becoming an FTI, different type of NSLI, full time/full benefit Delta Employee (vs DPS who are contractors). The problem is you cannot be both on the seniority list and working full time for another dept at Delta. Most guys I know are hoping to get their medical back one day, and accept the limitations of DPS.

Wholeheartedly agree if we got rid of DPS we would need to protect our guys.

SLIs also have much stronger vacation bidding options than line pilots.

As someone who has been an SLI for long periods of time, and flown the line for extended periods. SLI is not some unicorn/best way to make money deal. If you want max money; it is out on the line!
SLI can not WS or QS while teaching. There are no Premium Sim pickups. You can GS while teaching, but you are at the OBGS rung of coverage. Also, those overrides for PCP and APD are per month, not per event!

also, our pay pales in comparison to UA and AA. You can check the Contract Comparison.

as someone who’s seen bad instruction on various fleets. We should want there to be good incentive to attract a talent pool of instructors.

Generally the vac weeks available vs number of instructors a SLI is bidding against allows a SLI to get most/all vacation weeks they request.
