Agreed. I wish all instructors were SLI. Not to knock on DGS but half never flew at Delta and the other half never flew the plane. It’s fun getting into a “discussion” about procedures from someone who’s never flown the plane.

Im fine with it, just think some of that should be expanded to a wider group. Specifically the pos space commuting.

Yes I will keep beating that drum. No I won’t consider voting yes on a TA that does not have it. But I’m only one of 17k voters….

Which I think was added by the company outside contract negotiations as a way to attract applicants.

you can thank endeavor for that. Started around 2013 when the previous mgmt group thought all the RJ instructors would simply commute and pay for a crash pad. It only took a 90 day notice served to leave the dept with over half the group saying “back to the line” for mgmt to realize the problem. Hotels and PS. When DPS found out between groups it became a thing and had to be extended to all. Just like PS for pilots and the rest of the group getting included.

I hate to contribute to the thread drift, but what is it about SLI pay that is so good? I know they can get paid WB rate if they can hold WB, regardless of what they are teaching on, but I am not sure if there is anything beyond that making it lucrative? Other than commuting benefits?

90.1 hour min guarantee during teaching months (especially useful during vacation months for the same proration reason as vacation on reserve). $500/mo PCP Override or $1000/mo APD override. Easy to pick up extra events. Sleep in your own bed every night if you’re a local. I’m sure other stuff.

(1) 90.1 spot on.

(2) Usually rotated to the line for vacation months.

(3) Overrides spot on.

(4) DGS/DGP are way cheaper so they seem to clean up the open time before SLIs.

That's basically it. A good deal is in the eye of the beholder.

Guaranteed 90.1 hours a month at WB if you can hold it. On fly months you get the seniority benefits of the seat you're in at a potentially higher pay rate.

The one thing I disagree with is the pay for what they can hold. Thats fine when they are in department and teaching sims. But they get the same pay when they are out flying the line as a regular pilot. That’s not right. A LCP only gets the override when they are actually with a student.

But a LCP is already in that seat and therefore getting that pay rate, just not the override, every time he flies. A 320B FO SLI could likely hold 320A/73NA/220A or 717A but for being an A320 FO SLI. He will only be paid 350B rates though, at best. A little different scenario.
