Nah. He’s trying to put pressure on DALPA to agree to a cheap deal. Nothing more than that.
Let’s not forget, he’s a pathological liar and a complete imbecile. Zero credibility. I’ll be getting my info from DALPA/my rep. Not from Gumm or whichever company union-buster writes his emails.
Please take a deep breath and give it a few weeks to run its course one way or the other.

agreed. I went to bed optimistic and then after thinking about it today, it was just his meager attempt at a response to the MEC email… the next email from him will be to the tune of “we tried our best, but the pilots are insistent on killing the Delta brand”

There's something moving in the background here. He knows he has to make a deal before summer really cranks up otherwise he's getting shuttled off to some made up non-impactful management job.

Agree with you HK. The memo came across to me from a position of weakness. Not strength, al all. He in particular is desperate for a deal.

When did shift manager at the DMV become non-impactful?

What a cushy setup, fail miserably and get an easier job to collect checks at.

He won't pay what it takes to close the deal with his pilots, even though it would be the best long-term solution--a win-win, if you will.
He is not a manager capable of a win-win outcome. If there's any potential deal here, it will be after they bench Gumm. Is that in three weeks or three years? If it's in three years, Delta will be looking for a government handout like Spirit.

Didn't they try this tactic in prior contract negotiations? Pretending to play friendly with the union until suddenly pulling out and going straight to arbitration overnight?

It came off to me as artificially friendly, like he's trying to look like the good guy before inevitably shooting down an early agreement from the big bad union.

Yes, something along these lines.
