Nope. It is about target fixation. It is about listening to charlatans like Carl espousing the "good fight", that have nothing to lose either way in this whole enchilada. You are missing the really big picture here, and focusing on a problem that is fly specks in the pepper after this goes into effect.

Very interesting how the AT agreement with SWA works right in with the new DAL agreement with SWA. Transition of the AT 717s to SWA start in Jan of 2013, instead they start coming to us.
Then in 2015, when our contract finally catches up to 2012 SWA rates, the 717 rates at AT would snap to SWA 737 rates leaving our 717 drivers WAY behind what 717s SWA still has left.

Just be glad you aren't that first displaced AT 717 Capt.
I'll betcha a cold one the company won't take all the 717s if we turn this down. Know why? Because there won't be as much DCI lift that will need to be replaced, because we will be stuck with the 50 seaters for a lot longer. It's just simple math.

And the company will still have us in a BK contract. Why would they hurry? They always have plan B, and it doesn't necessarily include us. DYODD

Another way to look at it, if the CRJ-200 killed the 100 seater, what can a CRJ-900 kill?

And there is no guarantee the parked CRJ-200 routes will be covered by the large RJs, they may not necessarily backfill their routes either if high frequency is no longer en vogue as it doesn't meet the capacity discipline maximize PRASM mantra.
If the 717s were not advantageous for DAL, I can guarantee you that Mr Anderson would not be buying them SWA is choking on them because of what they do to their model. They aren't "dumping" them, because there is nowhere to dump them in the first place. They have long term leases, just like DAL does with the 50s. they needed a deal to get rid of them, and DAL came a long. The price must have been right, and I can tell you this.. DAL is not paying full price for those leases. They ARE with the 50 seaters... until 2024 or something like that.

Try for once to saddle up and put the lives of 12,000 pilots and their families in your hands and see what is more stressful, the life of the combatant or the life of the armchair quarterback. Wouldn't it be easy if we could just make silly demands like you recommend and have management accept them all. In that world girls fly little pink ponies around Candy Cane city. In the real world it doesn't work like that.

I don't loathe pilots, only bitter, old Red Book warriors that spend their lives wallowing in their bile.

Three no votes in my MD-90 last night. Myself, the captain, and a jumpseater who was a DTW 777A. Anecdotal evidence, since our reps did vote the way we would have.

There was also one yes vote in the hotel last night, MSP 7ERB.
