But we are still waiting for Network's block hour plan...

Every six months or so I get something to look forward to, only to see it turn into burning embers...

They have to build the 717 category in advance of aircraft arrivals. There will be a few LCA, APD and other positions which require training but aren't fully available for staffing the jet.

I've been exactly "one year away from a good deal" my entire career.

And when do bids close again??:D

Aug 14th, 2359. Someone with an inside connection should know by now what the final tally is.

Well we are starting to see the bottom WRT to increasing PRASM through capacity reduction. IOW, shrinking to profitability isn't working anymore. Taking that into consideration it will be interesting to see how RA and the gang respond to the LCCs refusal to join in on the latest fare increases.

You can continue the trend and keep PRASM up, but it requires hub closures and more consolidation......

I remember in 2009 when we started to hire. Everyone said the same thing. 200 new hires later, we stopped hiring.

The demographics on retirements were quite different in 09 however I never heard anyone say we would keep hiring. In fact I remember flight ops putting out that they would hire 180 to 240 pilots in that time frame.

Super post. I also thought 2013 would be the turn around. Time will tell, but frankly, I'm pretty sure the macro economy is not ready.

I did too but for that to happen the world need to have confidence in world currency. For that to happen you need better fiscal policies.

About in line where I assumed it would be. 76driver was off by a little bit. Bet a bunch of 744a's pulled when they saw how much they moved up.

So you believe we will be growing consolidated seating capacity?

No I don't for the next few years. That was the point of the 717 transition. We are moving a equal number of seats from DCI to the mainline. Consolidated seating will not change but the mainline will do a higher percentage of the flying.

They might be surprised when everyone senior to them they thought were leaving also pulled their papers.

I think you are mis-remembering, or the "everyone" who said that just couldn't be bothered to read the company letters and announcements that preceded the hiring. They were very explicit about he numbers they planned to hire and/or recall. In fact, I am pretty sure they went over the forecast by 6-9.

Its ok to be a pessimist, but you are getting borderline paranoid and pschizophrenic. Relax a bit, not everyone is out to get you.
