Really, the best transport of them all is seen here with the C-5,

Dude,

You do realize that the above aircraft could not possibly be a C-5 even if it was not a C-17, which I realize that you realize.

If it was a C-5 it would be on a ramp somewhere up on jack-stands while the crew is out on the town in some 5 star hotel, say perhaps Rota.

Scoop :)

Hey Scambo--

I didn't bid to the 777 on this last AE, but I would have had it by a comfortable margin (in DTW, anyway). Now I'm starting to think about it for the next AE. What are your thoughts on the flying? Punishing because of the time zones? Easy because of the crew rest facility? Fun layovers, or the same old thing over and over?

I had been enjoying the 76ER in NY, but that category is being slowly gutted; the best destinations are gone or are seasonal.

Anybody else with some input, feel free to chime in--

Thanks!

I don't find int'l flying brutal, except south america.

The destinations are extremely limited and seem to be shrinking to even fewer - as Timbo pointed out, Hong Kong is gone 1 sept to be served out of narita. DTW is rumored to be getting AMS as a gap filler, but certainly not long term.

It is SSDD. Ive been thinking about bidding the 330.

Wouldn't that be something. The senior guys bid the 330 because it seems to be getting all the flying, and due to the fence, the 777 goes way junior.

Even as a line holder, I only get 1 landing a month, if I'm lucky, as a reserve, you won't get many, if any. BUT...one 15hr. leg is the equivelent of a domestic 3 day trip, so, you've got that going for you. Most of our 4 day turns are worth 30+, with a nice, long layover somewhere.

Now, the good news is, if you've got a lot of 757/767 time, you'll be fine, because it's very similar to those, flying wise, FMS wise, systems wise, etc. You could put a 757 guy in the 777 with zero training, show him the few differences on the 15 hour ride to the layover and he'd be good to go.

The flying is beyond boring. It's not even flying, it's sitting for 15 hours (or 17 from Joburg). But you will eat until you'r tired, sleep until you're hungry, and your only worry is... when will you have to pee.

As Roscoe said "It's a 15 hour buffet, on the way to happy hour."
I can't wait!!!!!

Look at a 9 bid packet to see the other end of the spectrum.
20 leg 4/5days with no flight longer than 2hrs.

What do you mean by...'getting all the flying'? We are not getting any more A330's, so they are doing the same amount of flying, but to different destinations (Africa). None of the most senior guys I know want to fly to Africa, or go to an Airbus school for a pay cut. As I said, they will go to the 767-400, much easier transition, training wise.

Now, if DL pulls all the 767-400 time out of ATL, and puts it in JFK, the most senior ATL guys might have to bid the A330, or go back to the 767 ER (much bigger pay cut), but most of them have never commuted and they are not about to start commuting now, in their 60's.

Isn't it just so much fun to see the Snowbirds!!!!

But I really wish they'd update from the A-7.

No kidding?

Really?

Wow, it's as if I was never junior, or flew the 9, and the MD88 and commuted for 17 years to do it...
