No, not really. When I was based there I always found it weirdly quiet and hot. Now, when I transit, I avoid it. I'd rather watch the mutants and dodge the intrepid traveler.:eek:

No, he did not. If anything, he tried to help and ALPA advised the Comair pilot negotiators in the hope of Comair's survival. Capt. Moak is the head of your union. No one (with any sense) danced when a division of Delta which employed ALPA members was shuttered.

Economics "got rid of Comair." Comair's lack of scope which would have bound the parent company resulted in the loss of ALPA members' jobs.

The seeds of the destruction of the careers of Comair's pilots were planted during the 2000 ALPA Board of Director's meeting when ASA and Comair's application to trigger ALPA's support for a merger failed. Delta was allowed, without a fight from labor, to operate three alter ego airlines within "Delta." ALPA failed to effectively fight the swapping of routes and furloughing from the high cost legacy operation while hiring at the low cost replacement. My very strong opinion is that the role of a union is first and foremost to protect members' jobs; pilots' seniority and longevity. ALPA absolutely failed in its core mission during the last decade. Echoes of this failure resonate even today with the separatist movement, the DPA.

Economically, all of the first generation of regional airlines have failed with the exception of SkyWest. Republic was re-born and is really a second generation corporate entity. Further, alter ego airline within an airline concepts have all failed, whether it be Delta Express, TED, or Lufthansia's creations. The difference between those pilots who kept their jobs and those who lost their jobs is scope.

Who do you blame for your lack of scope? In my case, I realized that the only place a pilot could fly and be included in Delta's scope was, Delta. So I gave up my comfortable top 25% of the list seniority, went to the same building which already held my personnel file on their computers and re-applied. I was given a seniority number below my former first officers and am very happy to have that seniority number. Life isn't fair. You have to look around, make a tactical assessment and sometimes even toss one strategy out the window.

I hope you land on your feet. If your landing is at an ALPA carrier I hope you will join those of us who want to improve our union. In my opinion we are making progress. The Delta MEC is recovering flying. Should we acquire an airline, I will fight like hell to ensure a status quo merger of ALPA members.
