He never did respond. Obviously, he is not really in the know or is just spewing garbage about a group of pilots. I was fortunate to flow from CPZ and very glad the opportunity presented its self. Every day at Delta is a blessing compared to the regional world. As I approach 1500 hours in the dc-9 I am hopeful to one day be accepted as a worthy Delta pilot by the likes of slowplay.

Hey, Jungle Bus, want to know what you have to look forward to when you get to Mainline?
I -had- a BMW R100S, and I -had- J24, and I -had- a 1946 Cub too! All those toys are gone now, thanks to marriage, buying a house, having 4 kids, 42% pay cut in bankruptcy, and now 3 kids in college...with one more to go! My Guard buddies named my twins, "No Boat" and "No Motorcycle"! But I do live right up the street from Phil Lockwood, so I get to fly his Air Cam once in a while, it is a hoot! It's got two engines but it will take off, from the water, with two people on board, on one engine. He made a video of him doing a single engine takeoff, with his daughter in the back, right off the lake out back of my house. Here is Phil talking about the Air Cam on floats: Aero-TV: Stunning Perspectives -- Lockwood's AirCam (Part 2) - YouTube He originally designed the airplane for a photo-shoot of the Amazon for National Geographic, about 20 years ago, and he wanted two engines for safety, as there's not a whole lot of 'help' available in the Amazon Jungle! But it will take off, on floats, with only one engine running! (it's got two Rotax 914's, about 110hp each) Besides the Cub, I have an arrangement to fly a guy's '49 C-170 when we're actually going somewhere and want to get there faster than 60 kts! I chip in money for maintenance/hangar etc, but it's far, far less money than I'd spend owning.... |
Nice! Ditto on the 'other people's' airplanes (and boats!).
You've heard of; The Three F Rule? If it floats, flys, or fornicates, it's cheaper to rent! Actually the bike, boat and cub were not too expensive, didn't burn much gas, I got them when I was young and single...but that fornicate'n is very expensive, long term! |

Virgin and Delta to agree JV on transatlantic routes-source Interesting perspective, seems to believe that the Virgin name might go to the wayside altogether. “I can’t see Delta wanting to operate the Virgin brand because if they do what does that say about the Delta brand?” Liked that quote a lot, been wondering the same thing myself for years. Not sure what to make of it all, anyone better versed in our scope provisions than me know how well we are protected in this scenario? VA's future aircraft orders is what worries me. |

Here's a classic SFO restaurant, near the lower end of California St., a few minutes' walk from Union Square. It's always busy, so mid-afternoon would be a good time to visit.

pretty much not at all...just look at the JV we just signed with Virgin Australia...
I think if this happens we can pretty much say goodbye to any London flying done by the "Delta brand" Really not trying to sound sarcastic here, but I've been hearing for years now from reps on how the old, and new, PWA has scope protections in it that prevent a situation like this from costing Dal pilots' jobs/flying. Furthermore, I've been told that had we not placed certain scope provisions in place 8-10 years ago, I wouldn't even have job here. I guess it is easy to compare against a scenario where you get to control and determine all the mitigating factors and variables over time. Personally, I feel as though Dal mainline pilots are looked upon as any other codeshare partner group as a cost to be marginalized. My bigger fear is that the long term plans between AF-KLM-DAL-VA is to whipsaw the pilot groups against one another. Again, still trying to wrap my head around it all, but I have a feeling I'm being set up on a blind date with a girl who has a "great!" personality. |

I agree completely Kingbird. I'm extremely proud to have a career at Delta. I love what I do. Is this career what I thought it would be in terms of pay and benefits? Absolutely not. Plus, I was furloughed immediately after retiring from the military. That certainly moved my cheese. Yet, I'm very blessed and happy to be a Delta pilot. I love flying. I like the people I work with. I like chatting up the customers, showing the flight deck to children, thanking the rampers, fuelers, gate agents and turd hearse guys. I've done the white collar gig too. We have a pretty great profession and I'm happy. I'm not a DALPA guy or a Virginia Ave koolaide drinker....I'm a Delta pilot. I carefully weigh all of my union votes and decide what I believe to be in the best interests of myself and my peers. If our company wants me to wear my hat, make PAs, fly a great aircraft, I'm in. I'm not going to dance in a Christmas video but I get the idea. I don't care. Let the marketing guys market.
This is the way most of the people I know, and fly with feel, and that is why I feel relatively secure in knowing I'll not have to be a greeter at WalMart to make ends meet in a few years........ |
