Is Delta paying $360 million for Singapore's 49% or is Delta investing $360 million in Virgin Atlantic and then paying an unknown amount for the 49%? I don't think that was made clear in the article.

Denny

Edit: Disregard, I've read later articles saying we are paying $360 million for Singapore's 49% stake in VA.

This Joint Venture is incredibly dangerous for us.
If its all about London-New York that's one thing.

But-
Virgin 747s London-Atlanta-Sao Paolo?
Or any of 100 other combinations that will now be profitable for Virgin if they are picking up Delta feed on their way through the US.

Don't worry, soon Sailingfun will tell you how this is a good deal for you.

Great question.

Like they're at the table, ready to leave, and Branson has a sudden flash of inspiration and says, "hey, speaking of money-losing Virgin (ad)ventures..."?

Denny

It's $360M to settle the lie flat seat lawsuit :D

Cheers

Cool, George is here. We might actually start getting some interesting facts and perspective.

Go ahead, George, you're on the air.

Yeah, but only 49% of the profits accrete to "Delta Air Lines Holdings" bottom line, plus the servicing fee, the fuel, the ticket sales and marketing fee, the management fee ... .

We gave all the New York to Paris flights to Air France.
It doesn't take a crystal ball to see what's going to happen with this deal.

This is just a continuation of the Australia thing.
Delta heavy jets are being phased out.

Its not really about pilot costs though. That's only a minor factor.
Its about generating revenue without having to make capital investments.
Delta wants to be a virtual airline to the extent possible. Selling airline tickets without actually having to buy airplanes is very profitable.

That would be cabotage.
