NAHHHH,

ALPA is too busy trying to keep Pilot minimums as low as possible to help DCI management. After all, if Congress, despite ALPAs resistance, were to raise minimums, Pilot compensation might have to rise and we wouldn't want that, would we?

I guess ALPA was absent the day they taught supply and demand in school.

From todays ALPA blast:

ALPA, joined by Airlines for America and the Regional Airline Association, wrote FAA Acting Administrator Huerta to urge the agency to grant flight-hour credit to current pilots based on their airline training and experience as they draft new regulations to raise certification standards for newly hired airline pilots. This flexibility is important to ALPA pilots who have been flying for a considerable amount of time, but who may not meet the requirements needed to possess an airline transport pilot (ATP) certificate. An ATP certificate will be required by law for all pilots in FAR 121 operations effective August 2, 2013.
Granting experienced and professional pilots credit for their training and employment experience will allow them to qualify for a new “restricted” ATP that will ensure ALPA pilots remain in the air and do not experience a break in employment as a result of the new rules.
ALPA also urged the FAA to act quickly and issue a final rule on the ATP requirement before August 1, 2013. Read the letter.

No. I wouldn't. I would have deleted the same pic regardless of who posted it. To make your point you could pick any picture of someone blowing any bubble, yet you picked a bubble which looked exactly like a male sex organ. Why? Why that pic? You couldn't find any other pic of someone blowing a bubble?

I'm sorry you feel singled out, but I feel I'm a fair moderator. Do I miss things? Absolutely. But if our users utilize the "report post" function then a mod will see it, & if it violates TOS they'll take proper action. Find a pic of a bubble that doesn't look like adult content and I'll leave it alone.

ALPA has done a ridiculous amount of work on this issue - a lot of it being done by people who are specialists in the field of pilot performance and qualification. All they're trying to do is substitute on the job experience for hours, so little Joey doesn't come up 100 hours short next August and lose his job.

ALPA was a strong proponent of 500 hours for a restricted ATP after the successful completion of a bachelors degree from an accredited aviation institution. The data was there to support their interests, but it was shot down by the FAA - most likely because the FO in the Colgan crash was a graduate of Central Washington University's flight program (would not be considered an accredited institution).

1500 hours will still stand for barn stormers.

You do... do a good job as a moderator. I didn't think the pic was anything but amusing, so it was neither here nor there. But if you're going to err on the side of caution, I think most of are infinitely grateful if you err against displaying anything about MALE genitalia.

There's some other possibilities that you haven't mentioned, like the MSP reps were briefed but don't remember because they were too busy practical joking and zip-tying people's luggage together, or they misrepresented their lack of knowlege. Yeah, the implications are troublesome.

Ask them about the great prank with the sex toy in front of female staff members....

Will Virgin Atlantic grow as a result of this? Probably yes. Will they fly to more US markets? Probably yes. But I do think we'll see some growth as a result also. Some of that will be more narrow bodies flying ATL to Jamaica. Some will be bigger profits. Some I hope will be new service to LHR from previously unserved markets. Some will be bigger corporate contracts.

Sir Richard was notably absent from the press conference. He is a visionary, a maverick, and a hell of a showman. But he's not an airline executive. He has dyslexia. The last thing he wants is some analyst asking him questions about a spreadsheet. He built a great brand. His genius is knowing that he needs an expert to save it. Delta is arguably the best run airline in the world today. RA is arguably the best CEO. It speaks volumes that Sir Richard was not present at the announcement. We just picked up a brand that is loved and admired around the world, and slots at the most desirable airport in the world for the price that UCAL paid for 4 flights to LHR, and now they are dead last in the market and the music has stopped.
