When we boarded our flight to head back there weren't any crew meals nor were there any for the crew that brought the plane to us! All these little, mistakes or miscues or whatever you want to cal them seem so trivial until they happen to you and or you were counting on the company doing there job. We sure get hammered to do ours.....
You don't need a kiosk. Check in on delta.com, change your seat to what you want in coach and list for a upgrade. You never have to talk to a agent.

I had a couple questions after reading SD's update.

1) Does "ramping up mainline flying" generally result in the displacements we expect to see in most categories during the upcoming bid?

2) The party buzzphrase seems to be "new captain positions." Does displacement from WB FO to NB capt equate to progression?

3) I figured out what the company means by up gauging the flying. That means 50 seats to 76 seats. From the latest Crew Planning update, I'd say most of our pilots are in fact being down gauged. How many people think they will move to a bigger (higher paying) airplane during the next year? How about a smaller airplane?

4) Most of our payates change by 6-9% going from one airplane down to the next one. So if a displacement eats up your 8.something% January 1st pay increase, and the efficiencies in the TA helped create that displacement, was the TA still a good idea?

5) I didn't know you could discuss pilot staffing while being very careful to never utter the word hiring. But as always, "bid what you want and want what you bid." (Because you're going to be in that new, lower category or the one below it for the next 3-5 years.)

Just some food for thought.

I call BS on the quote by SD that "we can't predict the behavior of pilots"..........

Then why do we have so many guys on reserve for super bowl???

Sorry Buzz, I thought the Packers played a good game!

There you go, you broke the code!

With no additional wide body flying, and no hiring, there is no choice but to "Fund" the 717 positions by displacing pilots from higher paying positions.

Smell the synergy!

Guys,

Someone brought this up and I think it is a great point.

We always here about reduced manning as aircraft go into the MOD cycle but we never hear about ramping up manning as aircraft complete the MOD cycle.

I guess the MOD cycle is like the fabled Hotel California of Eagles fame: You can check out but you can never leave.

Either that or they don't backfill.

I thought the same exact thing. I kept reading each paragraph with anticipation of the "H" word, and all I saw, which remotely related to it, was "we're watching pilot attrition carefully as our first wave of age-65 retirements begin this year."

Can Delta crew an aircraft with just 7 pilots, 4CA,3FO's I presume. Or am I reading it wrong.

Am I the only one not surprised by the lack of progression here? It's is playing out exactly as I expect it to. I still say no hiring in 2014 either. The only way we hire in 2015 is if pilots actually start retiring before they hit their 65th birthday. I'll give you a hint. No one is planning to. These 717's are saving pilots from furlough. We have that going for us. The regionals are going to furlough, one in particular.
