FYI, crew planning has made zero adjustments to their planned manning with the new contract. The net job loss was costed out at 108 jobs however the new FTDT regs will offset most or all of that. It also appears the company will not ask for any contractual changes for the new rules and will operate under the current contract.

SEA has a lot of work to do if that's going to happen. Certainly possible.

But I think there are provisions to adjust what Delta pays based on some factors. I've been looking at the Regional forum and the angst surrounding the Pinnacle debacle. It seems pilots from other DCI carriers are urging the Pinnacle pilots to vote no as reduced wages at Pinnacle will lower their costs and contribute to the "race to the bottom".

Could someone (Bucking Bar, GeorgeTG, ACL65, etc.) please explain how these contracts "reset". For example if one carrier bids a lower amount for a certain route how that affects what Delta pays another DCI carrier?

IIRC Skywest negotiated a sweetheart deal for themselves when Delta was in the throes of bankruptcy. If a start up regional carrier underbids Skywest on say SLC-BZN what (if anything) happens?
It's not based on route by route. They're mostly long term capacity purchase agreements with letter grade performance bonuses as well as poor performance kill switches. The only time there is a bid is when the RFP goes out.

HOWEVER - the majority of the CRJ-900s are owned outright by Delta Air Lines, Inc. As a result, Delta can wheel and deal those airplanes more often, as they're on not much more than month to month leases for $1 a month to the DCI carriers.

Unfortunately for your scenario, Skywest owns their own CR9s, so the capacity purchase agreement applies. Details of said agreement can be found in the SKYW Annual Report.

With all that said, Delta does negotiate more flexible contracts than United or US Airways. This is mostly what allows the whipsaw to be as violent as it is.

We have that going for us. The regionals are going to furlough, one in particular.
Wait. I'm confused. Six months ago, we are all living with the impression that the company was going to park a ton of 757's, close the ATL 767 category, and use those surpluses to man the 737-900's and 717's that were coming.

Now, from what I've seen, they are saying that while they are still going to close the ATL 767 category, a lot of the flying will be absorbed by ER flying.

While the crew resources memo said they were fat on ER and 320 F/O's, all indications are that ATL is about to get 100 new 717 captains and DTW is about to get 20 new 737 captains. I think they even mentioned the possibility of adding some 777 captains.

Forgive me for sounding like Bill Lumberg, but doesn't that, at the very least, point to the possibility of at least a little progression around here?

After a month of changing diapers, I'm looking forward to seeing 80 bid DTW 717 captain on reserve and explain why there is someone junior to him holding it in Atlanta.

You ended that well! I still think the powerplay for a junior guy is DC9A.

And possibly a DTW 717 category as well. But remember, no one will AE them. All of those positions will be fed by displacements from higher paying equipment. We're shrinking, we will never hire, and we are losing all of our flying to outsourcing. Get with it newK.

The Company may not ask for contractual changes for the new rules, but DALPA will offer changes. Isn't that how we roll, constructive engagement and all....

Um. If anyone turned away from the ATL-SEA game because it was over for the Seahawks, you might want to turn it back on....

Well, this is getting interesting!

I'll let you know on the 717 CA thing, but my bets are that it doesn't go below 8400 until 2014.

Oh yes, that's right! We all should have gone to the other airline(s) that hired us. We would be much better off.
