All but the 88 and 737 have abeam points selectable! The DC-9 is automatic since youre flying somewhere by each fix and not really over it. :)

One thing Ive noticed on fifi... she sure likes flying fast. The faster you go, the more fuel you land with!

Pot meet kettle! :D

Careful about coming out as the grammar nazi when you post two sentences asking Sailing a question, and close them with a "." instead of a "?".

We all make grammatical mistakes......it's an internet forum. ISN'T this the place, if any, for grammar errors, spelling errors, underboob, and the occasional drive-by of Carl?

Good day,

GJ

P.S. It was always more interesting to read this forum when Carl would go nine rounds with Sailing/Slow/Alfa/Pineapple. I might just have to kick the habit one day and find a hobby after the sustained absence of 747 driver. (No offense FTB.):)

There was a (former NE) 727 Capt. up in BOS when I was a new hire who drove all the engineers nuts. About every 15 minutes, on a 3 hour leg, with good weather at the destination, he would turn around, study the fuel panel, rub his hands together, stamp his feet, rub his hands on his thighs, say something like, "Yes indeedy, yes in deed a roo. My oh My...How much Fuel we got?"

After about the 4th time he asked me, in one hour, I nearly took the metal log book out of the desk and smacked him over the head with it! His other favorite trick was to call mx up to the cockpit and argue with them about the radar test pattern not being right. With no weather forecast anywhere on our route, he nearly refused to take a jet once because he didn't like the test pattern, and that was on the old round green radars, which were about useless anyway!

To say this guy was a Nervous Nelly would be a huge understatement.

Then after the Western merger, the first Western Capt. to transfer into BOS was one of their "Peaches" who's initials were SB, if any of you Western guys know of him.

This clown would call up the dispatcher from the motel before pickup, ask him how much fuel he intended to put on the jet for his flight...and then tell the dispatcher, "Take some off, we don't need to be hauling all that fuel around!"

They are out there, but most of the real nut jobs retired a long time ago. And you wonder why Delta paid a shrink to interview us? These two guys were part of the reason!

It's my understand that the above referenced "SB" also considers Delta's sexual harassment policies as more of a challenge, as opposed to a guideline. If its the same guy i'm thinking of.

Ending a sentance with a preposition...tsk, tsk.:D Just kiddin', no grammar nazi here.

The 777 also likes to go fast. Commuter mach is .84, always makes gas and mirrors (roughly) Long Range Cruise. DAL likes to use econ and manage speed through the cost index, but it is not always the most efficient way to fly (speed is typically around .823-.825). Of course, sometimes you have a constant mach for good reason (NATS). That is another not necessarily fuel efficient issue, but done instead for traffic flow.

The fuel factor is different on different jets (checked on preflight) and is a fomulaic way to tailor flight plan fuel burn to historic individual jet fuel burn. It is almost always right on the money if you fly the flight planned profile perfectly.

Dal,

I recommend a PM for grammer tips. No need for a public correction, especially when a lot of us are typing in a hurry. I have noticed mistakes that I made with words I am very aware of: too vs to, their vs there etc.

With most guys I think its just a function of being in a hurry.

Scoop :)

There any talk about Delta putting sharklets on the 320s? I just saw jetBlue was going to retrofit some. I didn't think they were backwards compatible, but I guess I really didn't know.
