See where AA ordered more 777-300's, are we falling behind the curve?

The 777 also likes to go fast. Commuter mach is .84, always makes gas and mirrors (roughly) Long Range Cruise. DAL likes to use econ and manage speed through the cost index, but it is not always the most efficient way to fly (speed is typically around .823-.825). Of course, sometimes you have a constant mach for good reason (NATS). That is another not necessarily fuel efficient issue, but done instead for traffic flow.

The fuel factor is different on different jets (checked on preflight) and is a fomulaic way to tailor flight plan fuel burn to historic individual jet fuel burn. It is almost always right on the money if you fly the flight planned profile perfectly.

Scambo is the 77 using TCI now?

theoretically...:D

It is also using attilla.:D

Here's my mis-informed and microcosmic opinion on the 777, the 747 and possibly the -330...There is a gate with each plane's name on it. When you take off from some far away place, that gate is yours and it's open. There's no gate swap, no ramp dance, no block in crew drama. You blast, on time, they make a hole for you. You blast late, they make a hole for you. Enroute, never an issue on speed or micro-management (just comply with fom rte mgmt). Descent, you're in the fray with everyone else.

It gets weird when you get close to the destination 1-1.5 hrs out. Let's say we are landing at 6:30-7 am, customs is open and attila tells you to cross some fix 3 minutes later than planned - really?

Falling behind, we've been behind and will continue to be behind as we seem to find other airlines to fly our heavy metal routes for us!!

Can't tell if you were asking a serious question or not. You said behind and curve in the midst of a Kate Upton youtube post-a-thon.

Just in case it's a real question :D... are we falling behind or did AMR realize that UCAL is a force to be reckoned with?

Looking at the numbers I think it's clear. We're falling behind. BUT, what race are we running? If the race is to grow larger, then I'm not jumping for joy. Especially when you consider the 787 unlikely to happen.

If the race is to grow margins, I bet we're doing great... which means I probably won't jump for joy.

9000+

as in 9000 pilots on the list in case anyone forgot the connotation

The 727 was the same way. Push the power up a smidge, cruise at 82 or 83, and you'd be consistently 1.5-2.0k fat at your destination.

Of course, you were deaf when you got there.
