Doubtful many of those are new captains. I'd be willing to bet nearly all of them held captain within the last 6 years that are finally getting back to the left seat.

How many displacements have these bids generated, while we're talking about this?

Those are net Captains positions. RFP went out today for a wide body order with a very near term delivery schedule. The forum can keep hoping for bad news I will hope for good news.

Left seat 727 at 9 years for me, but plenty of 9/11 displacement, pay cuts, and stagnation for this deadzoner since. I'm still having a blast; I like coming to work; I like the people I fly with; and this company is being managed better than anytime in my career. I'm positive about the future. Sue me for being positive. It's a better way to live - imo.

Are there legit gripes? Absolutely. Is DALPA perfect? Not even close. I am however, still very happy to be here. Want to cry about an unfair world? Feel free. I'm not going to join in or commiserate. I will hand you a tissue though.

Flt Ops is still fighting to begin hiring this year. When hiring starts the spigot will stay open for a decade. Very possible 321's w/330's on the way. Economy actually showing signs of life. Company estimating only 25% to 30% stay to 65. Signs of DAL life on West Coast. If only a 1/3d of what RA is planning happens, we are in for a rocket ship ride over the next 15yrs.

Delta just signed a deal with non-ALPA Republic for a dozen fresh 50 seaters with new engines, paint and maintenance paid for by us.

Not quite sure what you're getting at. 9E isn't owned by RAH. Also, weren't those deals about 3 years in duration?

Who's hoping for bad news? I was crossing my fingers that I would be very very wrong and this would be very positive. It's far far far from that. 6 years in and I'm looking at getting displaced off of a narrowbody... 5 years ago I was holding a line 3-4 months out of the year on a widebody in ATL.

Next bid things will turn around, right? :)

Such is the life getting hired at a legacy in 2007. Count your blessings, at least your career is stagnating at a career legacy, and no matter how bad it is with Delta AEs, you're still employed and so far better off than anyone else in the regionals, LCCs, and other legacies.

It will be interesting to see how the 20 330 displacements flush out. That could make this bad for those in the middle of the list. I don't see this glass nearly as half full as you do.

T I'm hoping I get to stay on the ER so the pink socks can make another appearance!!!

Bolded is the light at the end of the tunnel with all this... unfortunately it's all hope and not concrete. I was hoping the 717 introduction would be far more positive than this. It's actually turned out to be much more negative. More widebodies would very much help out, that's for sure. And ooh-wee would I love to see some 321s. It gives me a nice option to keep away from the 737. :)

I love the job, love coming to work... the continued stagnation (promoted by a few as "growth") gets frustrating at times, particularly with a big bid like this.

Well, close your eyes put that hope in one hand then open your eyes and see what you are holding.

The son is a pilot at DAL.

Both are great guys!

Don't know the son, but I thought the father, who was retired before he played such a great part in hiring, retired for good after 9/11. I would be amazed, but very pleased, to see him involved once again.

The bad news is real. When the RFP results in an actual purchase, announced delivery dates, an AE with training that negates many of the soon to be MD'd I'll happily eat crow. Till then it's just blowing a sunshine you know where.
