Bar,
A lot can be taken from your post. I agree that if it were me, harming a fellow pilot would not be the road I would take. But, ER's latest posts were about a guy using insulting slurs, which equates to more than an opinion, if the slurs are associated with a group he belongs to. Are you suggesting that he not address the issue when it happens? IMO, when the opportunity presents itself, the flight deck can be a great place to eradicate stereotypes. FWIW, I've never heard the f_g word dropped in the cockpit. Flaming here and there, but that's more describing an overly emotional disposition when it comes to a guy. Closely related to menopausal. :) Never heard the n-word except when quoting someone. People at DL are generally quite tasteful and conscientious. One of my fav captains at 9E (who is now a tranny coverted kitten killer  ) is black.. He walked into the cockpit (tee hee) one day and goes "whats up, my n___?!?" "I uh.... ha....don"t think I can say that... whats up, man?" |

No one should use the words flaming or flamer near an MD80 without first clarifying if the source of the smoke is the Left Engine, Right Engine, Electrical, Packs or Pants. Four of the five conditions have immediate action or appropriate QRH responses. Must call for the correct checklist.
---- Captain told me this evening that my shoes looked gay. After reading this thread my only reply was "Thank You." Proof that a guy can learn something from APC. |

By definition slurs are based on opinion, not fact. http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m3...awgno1_500.gif |

How would someone know what group he belongs to unless it had already been discussed? Why should one take slurs personally? I am sure it was not intended that way.

Not saying such things are condoned, but they should be understood.
The dude had it right, nothing more than an opinion. Where's the harm? As Jefferson said "neither picks my pocket or breaks my leg." ... and yeah I got no idea if another pilot is gay and generally don't care unless Mila Kunis is involved. |

There isn't anything poltical about it, it is just rude and hateful. Good point, I'm an a$$. I read too much into what he said. |

There's a pilot in LA who is openly gay and talks about it all the time in the cockpit. He's also so buff he could kick my ass. But I did fly him to Gay Pride Day at Didn'y World last June and was happy he and his partner could celebrate with Mickey. True story.
