So here's the deal, I came off short call at 1730 today and was to start short call again at 0330 tomorrow. I get a call from scheduling at 1822 giving me a "heads up" on my rotation tomorrow which reports at 0500. She tried to make it sound like she was doing me a solid by calling me then instead of 0330. How legit is this? I didn't get 12 hours notice yet Now I'm expected to make report time which She knows I wouldn't have made if called at 0330. I've been on mil leave for over a year and don't remember this tactic.

As the man above said, you don't want to answer your phone, ever, unless you WANT to fly, because they will try to stuff you, just like they did. So, what do you do? You let it ring, and check open time in DBMS. See if there's anything there that tickles your fancy, then decide if you want to call them back. There is a lot of gamesmanship that goes into sitting reserve. There's Rolling Thunder, or Go Low, or Go High Early in December, etc. but the bottom line is, never, ever, answer your phone outside your obligation window, unless you are trying to fill up and go high. That's why God invented Caller ID and the OFF button. And if you do by accident, answer your phone, your answer is; "It will take me about 2 hours to get there, the traffic is awful this time of day..." even at 3am. Now, when I sat reserve a lot, as a commuter, and had Short Call, on my way to my commute, I would call Crew Scheds and tell them, "I'm on my way to the airport, anything comes up, CALL ME!" because I'd rather fly than sit in a black chair, and I'd rather they pay for my motel. But if you live in base, and you don't want to fly, never, ever, answer your phone until you have to. |

Well, they are about to get the butts handed to them by the Blackhawks. The Hawks 2nd and third lines are better than the Bruins first line. Boston is way too slow to catch them. Hawks in 5, course they have to still beat the Kings (but that is just a technicality, right?)

See, you won't hear Boston guys boast like that, we've been let down too many times. Ask Bill Buchner.
But the B's have really come alive, and Tukka Rask has been insane. I -hope- they can keep it up. Sometimes a long layoff helps, sometimes it hurts (ask Crosby) but it should be a great series with the Blackhawks. (DON'T COUNT YOUR CHAMPIONSHIPS BEFORE THEY HATCH.) Too many of our great teams have flamed out and didn't win the final game of the season. 1983 White Sox 2000 White Sox 2011 Bulls 1991 Blackhawks My experience tells me that they have to get past the Kings before we should even think about how they will do against the Bruins. ;) |

Make sure to look at his schedule a couple of times to intimidate him. |
MEC ALert 13-08
Guys I figured this thing out.
The DPA has hacked DALPA and this MEC ALert is part of a DPA membership drive initiative. Hell, after reading it I wanted to join the DPA! Scoop :D PS - In case someone does not understand sarcasm, this post is a joke. |

Well I get up at 0200 this morning to make my 0500 sign in. I'm driving from NJ and I get about 10 minutes to the airport and hit a pothole on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway...driver side front tire blew out! Currently I'm sitting on the inside shoulder of the road around a blind bend with cars racing by almost clipping me. I called USAA roadside assist and they are sending someone. I would just put the spare on myself but I am not in a safe position so here I sit waiting. Anyway, crew scheduling is "going to personal drop this trip" for me. ***! I'm glad I just paid close to $30 dollars in tolls only to get kicked in the junk by scheduling because of crappy NY roads.
Maybe I'm reading more into your post than you meant, but it is their job to make sure the trip still goes out on time, right? You, no doubt, have run into some [no pun intended] very bad luck on the expressways of New York city. With all due respect, I'm not understanding why Crew Scheduling is "kicking you in the junk" by ensuring there's a crew available to fly the trip? Did you tell them it'd only take you another 10-15 mins to get your tire fixed? Did you discuss with them the possibility of entering your trip, mid-rotation, once you did make it to the airport safely? Hope your MX delay and issue with Crew Scheduling is rectified safely, and to the benefit of both your concerns and the company's. GJ |
