QUESTION FOR DAL SOUTH PILOTS:
Where do the Delta N pilots list their preferences for the January AE when the time comes? Conversely, where do we list what we want to fall back to if displaced? |

So a senior ASA pilot is making about the same amount of money as a 10 year Delta pilot? Now you understand why the senior pilots at ASA and CMR aren't really interested in flowthroughs.

His point is similiar to what dozens of super senior ExpressJet pilots (top 100 of 2700 or so pilots) experienced when they turned down an offer to go to CAL at the beginning of the last hiring boom when they were offered basically a flow through (years after it was ended) or pref hiring, can't remember how that worked but it was offered. Anyways, by saying no the door was shut for them but they had bought into the future of XJT because it was an airline guaranteed a profit and a lot of BIG things were supposedly coming and they had seniority and were bidding in the top single digit % and so forth. I hated CAL but even then I knew you go to CAL. Well these guys didn't and it wasn't long before CAL took XJT out behind the woodshed and beat them senseless and all those big things like Delta flying, branded flying, corporate flying and so forth collapsed as did the market for 50 seaters and 69 of their 269 planes were parked.
If I was at Comair I'd very much wish right now I had pulled the trigger for DAL given the rumors the 70 and 76 seaters could be reallocated. The regional affiliate comes and goes the mainline by its nature will not. If ASA and Comair cease to exist then it is a gain for mainline pilots, if mainline ceases to exist so does ASA and Comair. |
Capn,
I'm not sure it it is the same place you would do it but we can put our AE, VD, and MD bids in ICREW under the bids tab where it lists "Advance Entitlements." It's in a similar place in ecrew. Denny |
To me, the decision to go to mainline from a regional is a personal one just like what airplanes or bases you bid. Its nobody's business. If a senior guy wants to stay I am sure they have their reason but I don't want to be at an airline who recieves as long as they stay cheap.
FWIW, I have a good friend who spent 12 years at ASA and is now at DAL on the MD88 in ATL. In January he hits year 3 pay ($88/hr) which equals his 3rd year pay at ASA when he left and in 2011 his pay equals what it'd been if he stayed at ASA all of these years but remember he's on the lowest plane in ATL. If he switches his pay improves further plus he gets strong work rules and, per the contract, no other airline is allowed to take planes from him but he can, if deemed a worthy fight, take planes from ASA. But honestly, why did he come to DAL? To fly larger planes and go further places and make more money and stop being at the mercy of DAL and instead be a part of DAL. But Joe, to each his own. You do whats best for you. |

Second, I've been over this before with you. ASA pay rates in no way compare to Delta pay rates. The 10 year 767 FO rate adjusted for DC funding is $131.66. I think you make around $90 - $98 at more YOS. For similar aircraft pay rates here ya go: 1/1/2010 **(Delta Rates Include 13% DC)** 3 Year Captain Rate ASA = $65.91 60-76 seat Delta = $113.45 CRJ-900 / EMB-190 Delta = $133.36 EMB-195 10 Year Captain Rate ASA = $83.07 Delta = $119.84 CRJ / EMB-190 Delta = $140.87 EMB-195 15 Year Captain Rate ASA = $96.73 Delta = $121.67 Delta = $143.01 18 Year Captain Rate ASA = $105.70 Delta = $121.67 Delta = $143.01 5 Year FO Rate ASA = $42.04 Delta = $73.89 Delta = $86.82 1/1/2012 Captain Max Rate ASA = $106.76 Delta = $131.60 Delta = $154.69 |
I'll tell you why mainline is better, I'm a CRJ 900 captain at mesaba. If we lose the saabs, which is looking like a real possibility, I'm back to FO. That's a pay cut from $75K down to $25K. At mainline I could have a livable wage facing adversity. At mesaba, if we lose the saabs, there is now foreseeable growth in sight. I have to hope that left seat time I have can get me out of here, if or when that happens.
