But really, I haven't seen the article but my guess is mostly DCI with a all-nighter 737 trip or two thrown in to keep Buzz happy and make it look like mainline growth.

My recollection on another of the MD-11's issues was that it needed larger engines. However for the number two engine that would have required a new "banjo forging" (to accommodate a larger fan diameter) and McDonnell Douglas was too cheap to spend the money.

Hmmmm...those are routes we used to fly before the code share with Alaska. They can keep that 0240 departure to GDL, however.
