Which brings up another issue -- maybe we wouldn't need so much Gold Bond in the summer if management would let the MD88 guys wear uniforms like the Reno Sheriff's Department.

Anybody have a headset that really like for the M88 that would also be ok on the 73N. I have an ANR that is old and needs to be rebuilt and I'm considering just buying a new one instead of paying to rebuild old technology. Thanks

While there is a relationship between our MEC (and all MEC's) and National, we do not take direction from them. There was a large shift (although it may have been subtle to the average pilot) when the new administration took office in January. It signaled, IMO, a shift in direction based on the reps displeasure with how C2012 went down.

You'll notice a change in the communication that's coming out since KR took over - and while you probably won't see the contract survey results anytime soon, there is a strong push from the very top of the Delta MEC to be more inclusive and transparent. The PUB program is a perfect example of this. Even in this "downtime" your MEC is going out on the road frequently and has visited every single base, to collect your feedback. I'm confident that capn's experience at the PUB was an outlier, and not the norm. It may have been 1 ALPA guy having a bad day - we're human.

I have actually noticed very little interference from National in the several years I've been doing this stuff. For the most part, we call them when we need something. They exist to support us, and it works that way 99% of the time. Lee Moak does not call down to ATL and tell us how things should be.

Understood. I'm also a junior guy, which is why I'm so invested in where this thing is going. We all want the same thing. It just boils down to (usually) a very small difference in opinion of how to get there.

The Blue is very Air Force. We might need to go with a more summer color to appease the Marines.

I took both kiddos to see Planes on opening day. First time they'd been to a movie theater, and the first time I've been in years. Great movie!

I loved all the little detail items - like the controllers voice coming into JFK (sounded like JFK), getting cleared for the Canarsie Visual, etc.

MD88? The 737 is about as loud as ... well ... have you ever had a canopy come off in flight? I'd suggest putting in ear plugs, then this over the top. I wear mine on the walk around ... stuff drips off the MD88 you know.


Eating dinner is a little difficult, but that's such a rarity on either of those airplanes that it's not going to be much of a problem. Captains don't screw with you either, when they call for Pre Flight Checklist and see this staring back at them ....

Tough question because those two jets have very different characteristics.
ie = The 737 is considerably louder.

Plain old Telex 750 or something similar would be fine on the Mad Dog but you might prefer noise reduction on the 737.

I have a Telex 850 that was necessary on the 73N. As others have said you could easily get away with the 750 (same thing they stock on the 9's) on the 88. I used my 850 on the 88 and it worked fine. It cancels the noise so well though, that you'll have to pull your left ear cup off, or beg the captain to use IC to save your hearing. I'm convinced that I will someday be deaf in ONLY my left ear due to my extended stay in the right seat.
