All I'm saying is, don't get too spun up over this announcement. Tell me again, when are those new A330's going to be delivered? 2015? Hmm...isn't there something else going on in 2015?? Oh yeah, just in time to negotiate our Next Contract! You don't think we'd want to jeopardize those "Growth Widebodies" do you??
And would you agree that your initial post did not imply optimism? What I got out of it was that this would be a purely neutral transaction resulting in no growth. If that wasn't the intent if your statement, then I apologize.
I think that will always happen, regardless of who is our CEO. These guys aren't MBAs for nothing. They're smart and they're cunning.
Why do you seem to get off on putting words into my mouth? Everybody at the top of the list today got there through Attrition! I'm a realist. A Realist is an Optimist, with experience.
The day before 9-11, 2001, Delta had 10,400 pilots on our list. At that time, Delta had 55 L1011's, and MD11's and 777's. How many 747's+777's do we have today?
Or was that merger considered Growth?

I think Richard just bought himself some serious negotiating leverage for our next contract.
While we play checkers, Richard plays chess.

I am sure he has to a point. But I for one will not give in the next round.. Cliche some may say... but the scope language was nailed down and contained. I will not vote for anything that changes scope or allows more JV's regardless of the wide bodies promised.... I am just one vote and it may be "tugging on super mans cape, or spittin into the wind" but a definite no vote if scope or JV's are tied to the order....

I'm downright giddy about getting the 321 over the 739. The 321 is going to hold 7 more people than the 757 and the pay rate has to be negotiated. While they are likely going to be mostly replacement aircraft, that is a significant "improvement opportunity" (can I start writing alpa press releases now?
) and can't be taking lightly.

Heck no! I don't think that on September 4, 2000 that anybody had any idea what January 2002-December 2004 would look like.
As others have said, there's good news out there...this echo chamber seems to be disturbed by it (except for Bar...he needs a coffee
). As johnso points out, you're pretty dang senior and pretty dang young. You didn't get there just through attrition...
I guess since every aircraft is beneath you, it's all right to act old and bitter.

You two clowns love to put words into my mouth!
Why is that?
You've go no other comeback? Where did I say anything was beneath me?
Where?
In fact, just a couple pages ago, I said I'd bid the 717 if they opened an MCO base!
All I'm saying, and pay attention this time, because I've got to go mow the lawn and get ready for work, is the Press Release said they would continue to pursue Capacity Discipline.
What does that mean to you? I know you know more than me, and everybody else, but do you know more than Richard too?

How was anything that I said gloomy? DL employed 10,400 pilots in 2001. I was 6822 when I got my seniority number in 2007... we are at 11,800 after merging with Northwest which had ~5500 pilots. The numbers speak for themselves! Timbo was speaking on reality when it comes to past actions in regard to growth.
All indications are that at least some of these will be growth aircraft, perhaps even all the 333s. The IGW version is a monster of an aircraft (higher pay rate??).
You're the one going "ho hum" over an Airbus order, btw...

The 30 A321s will expand Delta's existing fleet of 126 A320-family domestic aircraft. Delta's first three A321s are scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2016, with 12 more due in that year. The remaining 15 jets are scheduled for 2017.
